Question:
What are you eating

I am now three weeks out and I am wondering what everyone ate in a day about this time. I know everyone is different...that's why I want to hear from everyone ;0) I am an admittedly fussy eater, but I do enjoy protein shakes so that helps. I am also curious what the calorie intake range is for new posties. Call me crazy, but I just couldn't quite get the little weight thing on this site. Thanks. — M O. I am three weeks out and last week my doc and nutritionist gave me the okay to eat all meats except steak. but said to go slowly and try the softer ones and things like eggs, cheese cottage cheese. I have to eat protein first. I will not be allowed to eat veggies until about four months. I too have been drinking a protein shake each day but the last two days it has made me vomit so I did not drink one today. Am going on the hunt for some Detour Bars in my area tomorrow. i bought some canned white chicken meat. It looks like Tuna. It is good. I bought some pouches of tuna but am unable to eat them. Good luck. It is mostly a trial and error thing at this point

Hi. I'm six weeks out, and still eating the types of food I ate at 3 weeks, so I'll give you today's menu: I had a chocolate protein shake for breakfast. For lunch I had a tablespoon or so of cooked macaroni, trans fat free margerine, 1/2 ounce of cheddar cheese and smoked turkey, all cooked together in the microwave. I had another protein shake for snack. For dinner I had the insides of a crab cake (skipped the breaded crust), six mushed greenbeans and a tiny piece of a canned pear. I will have some sort of snack in about 15 minutes; since I skipped breakfast, it will be solid food. Already I've had about 74 ounces of fluids, besides the protein supplements; about 4 ounces of that was high calcium orange juice (mixed into about 24 ounces of water to give the water some taste). (I am unusual in that I could drink this much liquid even 3 weeks out).
Another typical menu for 3 weeks out would have been: Breakfast: 2 T cottage cheese and 2 T applesauce; Snack: protein shake; lunch: 2-1/2 T tuna mixed with a smidge of mayo, a low-fat ritz cracker and about 6 pieces of canned manderin orange (packed in juice, but served w/o the juice); Dinner: 3T chili w/o beans and 1/2 ounce sharp cheddar cheese, 6 pieces of the mandarin orange. Snack: protein shake. At this time, too, I would drink from 64 to 96 additional ounces of liquids, sometimes including a glass of V-8.
Beth (open RNY 1/15/03, 222lbs down 24lbs).

Hi, I'm a little nervous now. I'm about 10 days out, and seem to be eating a decent amount of food (pureed), I just hope it's not too much. Any suggestions?? Thanks. In the AM, I eat either about half of an individual instant oatmeal and nibble a piece of American cheese, OR 2 oz of low fat cottage cheese and half an individual portion of unsweetened apple sauce OR a single scrambled egg w/ cheese melted over it. I don't always finish the whole egg. For lunch, I either puree tuna w/ fat free mayo about 2 oz and sometimes a little hummus. I also tried pureeing sliced turkey w/ the mayo. This was great. I sometimes have more applesauce with it. I drink a protein shake in the afternoon. Atkins, 20g protein. Sometimes, I'll have clear miso soup from the Japanese restaurant, or the broth from wonton soup, etc.. So far, dinner has been similar to lunch. I made a little egg salad tonight with 1 egg, and for some reason just HAD to have a piece of mashed boiled potato. I keep a water bottle or a large glass of decaff iced tea around all the time.

I am 4 months post op and down 110 lbs. Breakfast (most mornings) is a protein shake. Sometimes I mix a packet of s/f Instant breakfast and a heaping scoop of my protein powder with 8 ounces of soy milk, some banana and a sprinkling of slivered almonds. I blend it until thick and frothy. Or, I will mix 1/2 cup of Tropicana (not from concentrate)orange juice, 1 peach nonfat yogurt, some banana and a sprinkling of slivered almonds. Blended. For lunch I eat the protein only of a Lean Cuisine meal. I am just not hungry for the carb part of the meal. I try to get in some fruit and or veggies (usually an ounce or so). I love salad and I do fine on it, but it's ALWAYS protein first. Dinner is a tough one. I am still not ONE with MEATS. It's getting better, however. I usually will have two or three small bites of chicken, or beef or shrimp, a couple small bites of mashed or baked potato, and a couple of bites of salad or veggies. Portions are extremely small at this time. So little is so satisfying still. Hope it stays this way FOREVER. I have tried the Adkins no carb protein bars. Some of them not too bad...like the peanut butter one and the Praulines one. Drinking all my water is a bit challenging and I used to be quite a water drinker. This stemmed from my old Weight Watcher days.
