Question:
Zoloft Takers-is this happening to you too?

I am 2 weeks post-op today, and doing good. My surgeon prescribes zoloft to all his patients after surgery. I've been having ALOT of trouble sleeping, and when I do get to sleep, I have some very disturbing dreams. I think it may be because of the zoloft...anybody else experiencing weird side effects from zoloft?    — thekatinthehat (posted on January 9, 2003)

HI there, I'm a Zoloft taker and I don't have any bad dreams. But just remember that everyone is different. Quike question why would your doctor give all his patients Zoloft?

I have taken Zoloft for years and I know dreaming is a side effect. Do you take it in am or pm? I find am to be better. Just wondering, were you told to crush it?

I took Zoloft a couple of years ago and did great for a couple of months. Really helped me. Then, I started having horrible nightmares. Doc took me off it and said that is a side effect some people have.

I've been on zoloft for years and never had wierd dreams. Since surgery however, I have been having some crazy and very real dreams! :-) I also had wierd dreams when I was pregnant. I think, for me, it is a matter of stress.

I wasn't on any meds after surgery and I had a terrible time sleeping through the night and also had nightmares. I looked on this site at the time and saw that it was quite common to have some restless nights. Your body went through major trauma and it's common. It wouln't hurt to run it by your Dr though, there could be a better med for you.

I've been on Zoloft for about 4 years now. Previous to that it was another SSRI, Effexor. Now THAT gave me weird, Technicolor dreams...in the beginning of taking it. Then about 6 months later, no more weird dreams. I have heard that many of the anti-depressants on the market can cause this side effect. Right now my Zoloft gives me no side effects, now that the initial YEAR of uncontrollable yawning has worn off! Such fun to take, these anti-depressants! Hugs, Joy

I take Paxil to prevent my weird, technicolor nightmares. My sister took Zoloft for a while and reported dreaming more. You might want to ask about other anti-depressants that might affect you better.

When I started taking Zoloft, I had insomnia for the first few weeks. Eventually, I guess my body got used to it and I was able to sleep. Maybe you are taking too much? That would be a good question for your doctor. Kimberly

i have been on zoloft for about 2 years now, but, have suffered weird dreams for much longer. after surgery i started suffering from insomnia so my psych gave me 50mg Trazadone to take at bedtime. it takes me 10 minutes to fall asleep & according to my psych, i still dream but the trazadone prevents me from remembering it. i cant remember the last time i woke up shaking from the 'dream that was so real'.

I have never been on Zoloft but after surgery I had a terrible time sleeping through the night. I also had horrid nightmares like I had never had before. It took me at least 3 weeks to get over them.

I had night terrors post op- was told it was from the trauma of anesthesia a the narcotic drugs- Thankfully they went away- It was AWFUL!

I haven't had surgery but plan to. I do take the Zoloft though and find that my sleep is better if i take it in the morning than at night...but ask your doctor if changing the time of day doesn't help, there are many different types of meds out there, and each has their own effect...myself? I can't take Prozac it makes me so much worse, i hate everyone and everything....good luck, hml
