Question:
What exactly is the # of grams of carbs, andsugars is safe to have in a protein bar?

I have seen 12g, 27g, and 13g. What is the cut off point for too many carbs in a food?    — Elizabeth P. (posted on August 29, 2002)

Alot depends on you. I do not go over 22 grams of carbs, becasue I dump if I do. Some people can tolerate more, BUT, I am not sure that more is OK. There is only one bar I like with 15 grams of protein and I think it is high in carbs at 20 grams, so I do not eat it all of the time. Good Luck to you!!

I have a protein bar that I like. It is EAS ADVANT EDGE cookies and cream flavor. It contains 2 grams of carbs,0 grams of sugar and 25 grams of protein. I hope this helps you. Oh and they also have some other flavors, but the cookies and cream is my fvorite. I get them at Walmart. {{{HUGS}}}

My surgeon's program says: No more than 23g of carbs. No more than 15g of sugar and no less than 10g of protein. Just a head's up, this morning I tried a Pure Protein bar in the Strawberry Cheesecake flavor. It is nasty.

There is no definitive answer here, as surgeons, nutritionists and others have varying opinions. For me, I look for a good tasting protein bar (there are alot of nasty ones out there), that has at least 15 grams of protein, under 12 grams of sugar, and no more than 200-225 calories. I don't even look at the carb content. What I have found though, is most of the ones with very low carbs taste awful and the ones with more carbs taste better. Taste is everything to me because if it doesn't taste good, I won't eat it at all. My fav protein bars right now are Balance Gold-Walmart, 96 cents. 210 cal, 15 protein, 12 sugar,22 carb. Usually eat 1/2 at a time.

Had the Pure Protein Strawberry Cheesecake bars. You've heard the expression 'like a party in your mouth'? Well, this was more like a funeral. It's sad. It's awful. It's like eating flavored chalk. I swear by Designer Whey protein bars. 270 calories, 7g fat, 7g sugars, 23g carbs, and 30g of protein. And they taste good. Like a candy bar. Used to get them at Trader Joe's for $1.69 each. Yesterday, I bought their last box of 12 and they informed me they're no longer carrying them. Murphy's Law. Oh well, they still sell Designer Whey protein powder (17g a scoop). And it's delicious. To borrow from Fosters, it tastes like an angel crying on your tongue. Unlike some protein powders that taste like a demon whizzing down your throat. Just my five cents. (Inflation)
