Question:
Can we or can we not absorb B-12 sublingual
Just went through the complete library on B-12 and am more confused than ever. CAN WE OR CAN WE NOT absorb B-12 sublingual? This is the question. I need to know as my levels are low and there are too many opinions whether "yes" or "no". — Kathryn K. (posted on February 21, 2002)

At the nutrition class I took, the dietician recommended sublingual B12.
She does the classes for 4 of the docs in the Denver metro area and has
been doing it for >10 years.

My dr gives us a choice of sublingual or shots. Pills we don't absorb
apparently. he did say however that if the levels drop shots are the
indication for bringing the levels back up. I found something at gnc called
total b, it's liquid, because all the bs are supposed to help absorb b12. I
opted for the shots because I have enough pills and mixes and potions to
remember to take and with the shots I just remember to give myself one a
month on the first of every month. Good luck

How low is low? If they're already well below normal, probably only shots
can work fast enough to bring you up to within normal ranges. Then perhaps
the sublinguals will hold you at those levels. Hopefully, you will have
fairly frequent blood work to be sure of what it takes to hold your levels.
The subs work for some, not for others.

My surgeon recommends to only use sublingual B-12. Supposedly it absorbs in
your mouth and so the RNY surgery is not a factor in malabsorbtion of it.
