Question:
POST-OP VITAMIN REGIMEN?
Can someone tell me their post-op vitamin regimen. I'm 2 months post-op and down nearly 70 lbs now. I started to notice a lot of bruising and went to the library and Vitamin C seems to be the key to help with this problem. But, I have yet to start taking Iron (except what's included in my Flinstones vitamins) and I was wondering if someone could share hints on WHAT brand, WHERE to get it, LIQUID OR PILL, and also share your daily vitamin regimen. Thanks for any answers! Kristin — Kristin R. (posted on November 21, 2001)

I take 250mg calcium citrate & a childrens chewable mulivitamin/mineral
before breakfast. 250mg calcium citrate, 25,000IU Beta Carotene &
1000mcg sublingual B-12 before lunch. 18 mg chelated iron & 1000mg
vitamin C with my protein bar in the afternoon. Then I take 250mg calcium
citrate & a childrens chewable mutivitamin/mineral before dinner. My
doctor recommended everything except the beta carotene and the vitamin C.

I'm the one who just posted. I'm sorry I forgot, I also take three
chewable calcium citrates (250mg each) a day.

You must educate yourself on this--many on this site are well intentioned
but are incorrect as to which vitamins to take. Go to www.vitalady.com and
spend some time learning about what your body needs now that you are
post-op bariatric. Bruising is helped by taking vitamin c, 1000 mg, 3x
day...it's water soluable and therefore, you cannot get too much. You'll
need calcium citrate, dry vitamin E, vitamin c, a good multivitamin with
lutein and folic acid, hair skin and nails vitamin, and possibly iron and
or zinc. Check it out and educate yourself--you can live a long and very
healthy life but the info is misunderstood by many. Good luck.

I take one iron pill in the morning, later in the morning one actigall, one
multivitamin and two calcium citrates. I take the same at night. Follow
what your surgeons prescribes as he/she will be checking your blood levels.
There is no need for me to take more supplements than my body can handle.
My surgeon didn't start us on iron, actigall, adult multivitamins and
calcium citrate until our three week followup visit.

Hi everyone. I wanted to post about a vitamin I found and this is as good
a question as any to put the answer under. The company is SOLGAR and they
make a lot of supps. The ones I like are the vegetarian multiple. They
come in capsules that dissolve really well. I take two at a time with no
problem. They have a lot in them but I still take an extra calcium, iron
and B-12 sublingual. That's my regimen. I had a really hard time finding
a multi that I could get down and wasn't for children. Hope I've helped
someone.
