Question:
bread, bacon & veggies

My surgeon strictly prohibits bacon until at least month 4. I don't know why but I have been craving bacon, lettuce, tomatoe, bread etc. Let's be honest, I want a club sandwich. My question to all you RNY's is: will I ever be able to eat this? If you eat out, do you even bother asking about sugar free bread? Please give me hope! :0)    — [Anonymous] (posted on October 14, 2001)

I can eat a club part of a club cand of Lyons. I only eat a 1/4 or 1 tiny slice of it. Just take it easy and eat it slow

Bacon gave me FITS early on, stuck in there for an hour, all of it painful. I am very careful with bacon today and it must crumble at my touch or I do not put it in my mouth. I can eat more than 1/4 of a Club, but not quite half. It takes longer, so I savor it more slowly. WAY more satisfying than ever before.

My husband, the Poster Boy for WLS, eats pretty much whatever he wants, just small portions. His surgery was 6/12 this year -- He's lost EIGHTY-ONE POUNDS. Mine was 9/28, so I'm soup-no-nuts still. I have friends who have had the surgery a year ago, and they are able to eat a salad-plate size portion slowly. I hope this helps -- I myself have a craving for a cheeseburger with a HUGE slice of red onion, mayo, tomato & mustard. . . As I sit here sipping my chamomile tea and dreaming. . . \;~)

Hey I had a club sandwich at perhaps 6 weeks out without a problem. I ate most of the bacon, a bit of tomato, a tiny piece of lettuce, and a crouton sixed piece of toast. Dipped some of it in mayo for flavor. I craved stuff right after surgery, then once I ate it lost interest in the item. Lets just say I advanced my diet ahead of schedule but had no problems and can eat whatever I want in small quanties. Of course everyone should folow their doctors orders.....

Broil your bacon. It seems to get more fat out than pan frying.

I am exactly 4 wks post-op RNY surgery as of yesterday and have eaten bacon, no problems. My husband cooked bacon using the George Foreman Grill and got most of the fat out of it and I chewed slowly and kept it down. The other day I had breakfast at a restaurant and had one egg and four strips of bacon. I broke off the fat (the fatty ends, should I say) and had no problem with it. I am supposed to be on soft foods only but hey, if it stays down, who cares?? Also, I've never heard of sugarfree bread. I was always told to eat wheat bread and always enjoyed wheat since it's supposed to be healthier then white. But then whenever I eat bread I eat so little of it that it doesn't matter. I still stay away from fresh veggies since I was told to wait until at least 6 wks post-op before, even though I had a chicken salad from McDonald's around my 3rd wk and didn't have any problems. I guess we all cheat from time to time. It's so hard to follow the rules when you want to be NORMAL!!! :)

I have a strip of bacon and a egg yolk for breakfast every morning. I just make sure that the bacon is nice and crispy and the egg yolk is not real runny
