Question:
I'm 5 months post op prox. RNY with bowel movement problems.
They are loose and messy. I go 1-3 times a day and practically need to shower after each time to get clean. Any suggestions to solving the problem or to what could be causing it? I've noticed the the more protein I eat, the less frequent I have stools, but the problem remains the same. Help! — [Anonymous] (posted on October 1, 2001)

I am not post-op (yet) but I have had lots of problems when I was taking
glucophage with constant loose bowel movements. My Dr. gave me a
prescription for something called questran. It is a powder and I would mix
it with sugarfree lemonaide kool-aide. It acts as a binding agent and it
really worked, if you can get beyond the gritty taste of the drink.

Sounds like you may be lactose intolerant. Have you tried changing to soy
milk or cutting milk out of your diet. I had very loose stools and doc
suggested maybe lactose intolerant since surgery. He was right. Changed to
soy milk and have no problems. Hope this helps. See your doctor!
