Question:
How soon after surgery can I start bowling again?
My surgery is on 7/25...5 days! The league starts beginning of September. Is this too soon to start? Any other bowlers out there care to elaborate? — Allie B. (posted on July 20, 2000)

I would think that waiting 8 weeks would be best - also, it depends on the
weight of your bowling ball. Is it 8 to 10 pounds or is it closer to 15
pounds? Ask your surgeon. Perhaps get a sub for the first couple of
weeks. You don't want to give yourself an incisional hernia - and the
bowling league will always be there anyway -- so what's a couple more
weeks? You could go and cheer them on though!

Be sure to check with your doctor on this one. I had to wait 8 weeks in
order to do any exercising (besides walking). I think the weight of the
bowling ball and the action of bowling itself may be a problem at that
stage. But don't deprive yourself of the fun. Just explain to your
buddies that while you can't bowl yet, you do want to be a sideliner and
enjoy the company!
