I had my surgery 2+ years (9/25/2002) ago with Bsrix, then Bariatric
treatment center. My experience has been overwhelmingly positive. It is a
whole program. They give you the tools to be successful, but it is up to
you to use them. You can see the dietician any time for the rest of your
life, there are numerous support groups. the patient care counselors have
all have the rny surgery themselves. I have lost far more weight than I
expected to. I have maintained the same weight with in 5 pounds for 1 year
now.
I did check out other programs and surgeons. Too many cut you then leave
you on your own to figure it out. I have loaned my written materials from
Barix to friends having surgery at other places where they got NOTHING in
the way of education. I got a whole binder with every step of the diet
spelled out including recipes, menus, how to read labels, shop, eat out,
exercise etc. I got a call from a dietician at every step of the way as the
diet advanced. At my 1 year appointment I took it upon myself to write down
everything I ate for 2 weeks before and bring it in and go over it with the
dietician to make sure I was doing it right. They d=said I was doing good
and to feel free to di=o the same on a regualr basis, and that I could even
mail in my eating list and they would go over it if I didn't want to drive
in. They also recommend seeing them annually for life to be checked out.
The labs they recomend are EXTENSIVE. I am happy I went thru Barix and even
happier with how much better I feel. I will always struggle to an extent
with my eating and keeping under control. unfortuantely that is something
we will all have to deal with. If you have any other questions, please feel
free to email me. Good luck in your decision making. It is a life changing
decision.

I had my surgery 1/19/05 at Barix Clinic in Langhorne. It was my best
hospital experience I ever had. All of the staff down to housekeeping are
really nice. I felt like royalty. Feel free to email me any questions you
have.

Hi, I just had my surgery at the Barix in Langhorne on 3-9-05.
I have to agree , that it is probably the best care you can get. The staff
is fabulous. As a nurse myself, I would definetly recommend the Barix
Clinic, the best post operative care you could get, definetly better than
you could possibly get in the hospital setting.

I totaly agree with evey positive comment made. I had open RNY at the then
called BTC in Bellvedere, Illinois--on 4/9/01. I'm going back next month
for my 4 year check-up. The after care was and continues to be outstanding.
They care enough to want to see me yearly check-ups for the rest of my
life. I am still able to contact them, and recently did with a question
about calcium. The nutritionist called back as a follow-up to see if I
needed additional info. I consider the info they give to be outstanding,
and yes it is a book that is informative and "user" friendly. I
still refer to it--it sits on the cookbook self in my kitchen. I highly
recomend them!! Good luck, Bek

Unfortunately, I do not have any positive experiences to report about them.
I went through them when they were still BTC in Ohio back in 2000. I was
approved for surgery (much of the leg work I had to do on my own) and one
week before surgery was supposed to happen, the insurance company rescinded
it citing BTC did not give them enough information. When I went back to
BTC for support, all of a sudden, no one could return my phone calls,
information kept getting lost between the different stations, etc. For me,
they were worse than the insurance company because of the idea that I
needed help and they were unwilling to give it. Had I of realized what my
options were back then, I would have appealed it (and probably won), but
the support was not there when the $$ wasn't right there for BTC any
longer. So, although I'm sure others have had very positive experiences
with BTC, I haven't. Good luck to you on your journey!

It has been a good experience using Barix in Ohio for me. I did have to do
a good bit of my own leg work but I like having control over what is going
on, choosing own docs for tests etc. Approval process took a little longer
for me because of holiday season. I had surgery 3/8 and am doing fine. Any
question I have, they answer, and Dr. Barbara is the best. He will spend
what ever time is necessary for his patients to feel comfortable. Barix is
good.
