Question:
I need help in seeing if this protein shake is ok for me??
I found this mix at wal-mart and I can drink it finally but looking at the carbs on it I'm not sure if I am doing good or harm? I need help. It is called EAS Edge Avant HP Soy protein. The protein is 20 grams per 8 ozs but the carbs is 19 grams :( It seems to be the only one so far that I can hack. I still really don't like it but I can get it down. I make it with water. I hate milk. — Robin A. (posted on September 22, 2003)

This shake is fine for you. It does not have high sugar which is what you
really need to be watching. My nutritionist has a limit of 20 grams of
protein per 150 calories (If I remember correctly). I drink the same thing
only I get the whey formula which is supposed to be a better quality of
protein and in my opinion a little better tasting. I mix mine with coffee
and some sugar free caramel syrup and ice. Kind of like my own version of
starbucks frappucino. Good luck!

I've always read that soy protein is not the best pick for us - that Whey
is much better quality. Also, I think that 19 grams of carbs is high. You
can find some tasty high-quality whey proteins with only 1-2 grams of
carbs. I like Protein Whey Stack by Champion Nutrition.

Me again. Decided to look at the carb count on my EAS Whey and it is 4.
Are you sure your carbs are that high? Wonder what the sugar content is??
Anyway, like the previous poser said there are better alternatives. Go to
Vitalady.com and click on protein comparison. There is a chart listing
various proteins and their attributes. My nuritionist has said not to pay
attention to carbs, just try and do protein. I don't know about that
advice, but that's what she says.

I also shop for my protein powder at Super Walmart but I get the "Whey
Protein" in the same brand,,,It is VERY easy to mistake the two. The
containers are EXACTLY the same just the name is different. You DON'T want
the soy protein which DOES have 19 grams of carbs,,,what you DO want is the
whey protein which only has 3 grams. If you start having a hard time with
the protein drinks because they can get boring just let me know & I'll
email you some of mine. And don't think you have to use the soy one just
because you purchased it,,,it will only deter the weight loss. Give it to
a friend that you think needs to build some muscles. Right now we only
need to lose, not build.

LYNDA yes the carbs are 19g in SOY. This is the kind I have been using
since surgery only WHEY. which is low carbs. Last time, by mistake, I
bought the SOY and opened it. Then I saw how high calories, carbs are and
called my nutritionist. She said since I had opened it to go ahead and use
it but not anymore. I might add, that while i was using that can, my
weight loss really slowed down. So you need to get the whey. I like this
brand because it is cheap and easy to mix. Even if you don't like it, you
can drink it right down.

I use Unjury Chocolate protein powder. You can only get it online but it is
very worth it. www.unjury.com The chocolate tastes just like chocolate
milk. 20 grams protein from the unjury and 6 from the 6 oz of skim milk. I
can not stand milk and never cared for chocolate but this is yummy! Good
luck!

You can also try a powder mix called ISOPure, from Nature's Best. It's
made of whey protein, and has 50g protein, 0g fat and 0g carb. You make it
with water, not milk. Good luck!
