I am over two years out, and yes, you can eat entire sandwich by this time. Now, I would say that it depends on how much filling you have in the sandwich. If I eat a fast food sandwich, I usually take the top part of the bun off and eat the rest. Still, this is usually all I can eat with a few french fries. Oh yes, I am talking about the small hamburger, not the quarter pounder! :0) You know, you could have ate something much worse. Peanut butter is a great source of protein, and the sugar free jelly is almost all fruit. Don't feel bad, feel great at the good choice you made.

Like the other poster said, don't beat yourself up. Maybe next time try to limit it to 1 slice of bread and fold in half and then have something else for the rest of the meal. The peanut butter is high in fat and carbs but the carbs are much more justifiable than refined carbs, just like fat free refried beans are high in carbs but good protein. Learn something from this - you ate too much so next time you'll cut back the quantity and enjoy the smaller portion.

Peanut butter has protein and only 7 carbs per 2 Tbsp. serving although it is really high in calories. Don't beat yourself up over one sandwich but do remember how it made you feel to eat something like that. I always think "Is there food in this food?" and in a PB & J there is not much so make a better choice or just decide that that is your treat. p.s. 145 pounds is AWESOME!!!!!!!

I'm jealous. Not to make light of your fears, but I'm 13 months out and since about 8 months out I've been able to eat a whole sandwich (meat, pb&j, whatever) 90% of the time. I can eat a whole Detour/uturn/one-way bar. Not the little ones either. What I've tried to do is make sure that my sandwiches are dense; whole grain breads and dense toppings and I don't eat the side or bottom crust (I love the top crust :>) I know my SL is intact and no fistula and my pouch is perfectly "normal" for where it should be so I'm not worried about that. Just have to control the little food demons to make sure what goes in is dense enough to keep me full a long time. Good luck!

I think your normal. A PB & J is not a fat stuffed sandwich so I think you would be able to eat a whole sandwich. Many post-ops as far out as you can eat an entire 6 inch sub from subway too so your OK. Now if you could eat an entire Quarterpounder, I'd worry.

When hungry I can eat a whole pizza hut personal pan supreme. Yes it concerns me but its normal for long termers. Chewing good I can eat more too. We had a long discussion at thew WLS support group picnic this past weekend. I miss the never hungry days.

Peanut butter is a good source of protein, much better than say a Mickey D's burger and frys.

fortunatly for you that really isn't that much, i've been able to eat that much for months. probably since five months. now at nine months out i'm really worried i can eat! i can eat a whole 9oz lean cusine meal "most" of a chicken whopper with a few fries, a senior steak with steamed broccli and half a cheese bread from slizzer, a small boneless pork chop with 1/4c of veggies and 1/4c of rice a roni, a whole chicken or tuna salad sandwich minus the top and bottom crust, two slices of pizza no crust and this is probably more information than you cared for but no you didn't eat to much. would that be to much for a normal person to eat ? don't we want to be normal? take care. kimberly open distal rny 11/12/02 -119lbs

Just ask yourself, would you have made this same food choice 20 months ago? Would 1 PB and SF Jelly sandwich have been enough? I just read an article that says that when you get cravings, PB or peanuts are a good way to get rid of the craving, Complex carbs take your sugar up slowly and let it come back down slowly so you don't crave again for a long time, the SF Jelly just psyched out your taste buds, they thought they were getting a real treat. Try whole wheat next time. I used PB alot post op, when I started losing my hair and figured out that it wasn't the lack of protein (I got plenty of fat free protein) it was the lack of fat (they told us to be completely fat-free,unrealistic and unhealthy). 145 lbs at 20 months is awesome, keep up the good work.

I am 2yrs + postop and can sometimes eat a whole sandwich . . . And sometimes I can't. To be honest, I'd rather have a half a peanut butter and strawberry Polaner's spread sandwich on my sprouted wheat bread than a slice of cake! It is a real treat. And like others have said, you could have made a lot worse choices than that.<p>Don't worry too much about the volume. For me, the amount I can eat changes from day to day, from meal to meal. If I haven't eaten for a while or if I am PMSing, I'll probably eat a whole sandwich and be hungry 2 hours later!
