Question:
I am so worried that I may have eaten too much tuna
In all of the chaos of having 5 kids and two of them being sick right now- I unintentionally ate an entire can of tuna. Between the numerous tasks - I would stop and take a bite of the tuna and move on to the next crisis. It took me a little over an hour of taking bites and chewing VERY well- before I knew it I had eaten the whole can! I did have some discomfort afterwards, but it was tolerable. Have I stretched my pouch or caused some damage- it is so early in my recovery stage- I am terrified that I have made a major mistake!!!!! Please let me hear if anyone has had similar experiences- I am really stressing over this! — lyndaleigh (posted on April 21, 2003)

Don't stress over it. A can of tuna is 6 1/2 ounces and it's full of
protein. You did fine in my book......unless it was mixed with mayo.

I can eat a whole can of tuna (plain w/ seasonings)as long as I have not
eaten or drank anything in a few hours. It all depends on the type of food
I eat, I was eating 2-4 oz per meal and now I can eat 4-6 oz per meal. I
just chew really good and take small bites, so I can tell if am getting
full or sick. Good luck!

Relax, hon. You didn't stretch your pouch. At the early stages there is
no way you could - you would throw up first. You may have eaten more than
you would have normally, but since you only absorb half of what you eat,
and you probably aren't getting enough calories anyway, you didn't hurt
anything. It's best to sit down and eat your meals, but somethimes that
just isn't possible. Later on, what you did could cause you to take in
more food than you need, calorie wise. Our meals, ideally should be eaten
in about 20 minutes. It takes food about 30 minutes to leave the pouch and
if we "graze" or nibble off and on for an extended period of
time, then we can slow down the losing process. This isn't as much an
issue early post-op as it will be later when you will have a tendency to
want to snack. So, relax, your pouch is fine.

Better than eating a whole can of frosting! :-) Honestly though...don't
stress over a can of tuna. Unless it was packed in oil, this was a very
low fat/high protein food for you. How many ounces are in a can?
