Question:
Surgery Types- Micro Pouch or Laproscopic Bypass- which is better?
I would like to find out which is the better surgery to have. I am looking into the micro pouch orux bypass and the lapriscopic bypass but am uncertain which is best and why. I need help. I was told the lap band surgery has a high percentage of people gaining weight down the road. I am so confused. — Suzanne N. (posted on February 27, 2003)

Please check out the details of the Micropouch at

I had it on the 10th of February and was referred by someone who had it and
their wife.

If avoiding late regain is a big concern for you (as it is for most of
us!), I recommend that you look into the Duodenal Switch procedure (see
www.duodenalswitch.com for details). Of all the different weight loss
surgeries, the DS has the best stats for maximum weight loss and weight
maintenance. I had the DS eight months ago, and I'm thrilled with my
results so far. I feel great, I'm nearing goal, and I've had no serious
side effects or food intolerances at all. Any of the surgeries can work,
but studies show that the DS gives you the very chance of long-term
success. Of course, it's only appropriate for people who can commit to
being SERIOUS about taking vitamin/mineral supplements and getting regular
follow-up care. The higher degree of malabsorption with the DS comes with a
higher risk of nutritional deficiencies if you're not diligent. But if you
know you can keep those commitments to your health, the DS is a fantastic
option. Best of luck with your decision!

Ooops. That should have read: "studies show that the DS gives you the
very BEST chance of long-term success"

Hi, i had the micro puch 2 years ago, and i wish i would have resurched
more, i think i would have chosen the DS.With the micro pouch i am really
fighting to keep my weight off.and i can eat alot more than they told me i
could, i have about 3 feet bypassed,I had dr. Sapala and that is the max he
will bypass, unless your over like 400 pounds or so, at this point i am not
sure if i am having bounce back weight, or if i am always going to have to
struggle to keep the weight off? We will see??? My lowest was 145, and now
i am at 160? So my point is do you reserch. I think if i had done more
reserch i would have chosen the DS.

I had the micropouch surgery 17 months ago.......and it is wonderful!!! No
acid reflux, normal food intake, and NO POUCH STRETCHING!!! Dr. Wood was
and is my doctor, he bypassed 150cm (5 feet), and I was considered a
"light weight"....272 @ 5'4". I was not a 400 lbs super
obese person. I'd do it again in a heart beat! No problem maintaining my
weight, no depression, and ALL my co-morbids are gone. Dr. Wood just
preformed a TT on me and I've "lost" another 10 lbs and gained a
new cute belly button. Research both, talk to alot of people. Check this
web page out and look at the benefits..... www.micropouch.com Phiddy
