Question:
Has anybody suddenly started getting nauseous after eating the first bite at 8 weeks?
I never have had any problems with nausea or dumping or anything until now. The first bite usually tells me if I will be able to eat or not. — Sugarbaker2001 (posted on December 26, 2002)

Your stomach is seeing this object as foreign and doesn't know how to
tolerate it. Eat small and slow. I still have that problem now (18 months
out) if I'm eating too fast or too much. There are certain foods that I
used to be able to eat that I can't tolerate.

OMG!!!!! I am so experiencing this same exact problem right now and have
been for the last 3 weeks. I feel completely fine and then I try to eat.
It is all over then. As soon as I swallow the first bite of food (does not
matter what it is, I have tried everything) I get immediately, unbelievably
nausous. And have begun to throw up almost everytime I eat. At first, I
thought I wasn't chewing well enough, wasn't eating slow enough, but
believe me I have tried EVERYTHING to make this stop. I even had an
endoscope (upper GI) done on Monday to make sure my Stoma wasn't closing.
It is so horrible. I haven't really been able to eat in almost 3 weeks.
The doc that did my scope said everything looked fine and this could just
be how I will be forever. I will have to shoot myself if it is. He did
give me some medicine and I have been doing a little better the last couple
of days, although, I did throw up today. I was doing just fine for 4 weeks
and then bam, can't eat anything. I will be 7 weeks post-op on Tuesday.
Had open RNY on 11/12/02.

I also did just fine until about 8 weeks out and then I suddenly became
nauseous all the time and was running a low grade fever. I had a scope
which showed no problems. I got put on an antibiotic and after about 4
days, the temp and nausea went away. I must have had a little infection.
The nausea was relentless and I felt so horrible. I was so relieved when
it subsided. Maybe try an antibiotic--best of luck!

if I'm reading your question correctly, you're not saying you can't eat
after one bite with everything...just that when you put the first bite in
your stomach lets you know immediately whether it will be tolerated or not.
IF I have this correct then I went thru this from about week 6 to week 8
and it passed - Though on rare occasions it still happens (am five months
out now). Sometimes if I wait a few minutes and try it again, I can get
around that and other times I have to find something else to eat. Just
listen to your stomach and you should be fine :>)
