Question:
How bad is it to taste some of the fare brought in?

I had one kernal of carmel corn one day, a taste of peanut butter fudge one other day, 2 chips with cheese dip one other day. Some days I don't taste anything, as a matter of fact it doesn't cross my mind. Then on others I will taste it. People watch me and say "can you have that" it almost makes me feel like an alien or something. Can this ruin my future weight loss?    — Sugarbaker2001 (posted on December 17, 2002)

I just had a discussion with my dietician about this today. She said that the occasional taste of a dessert is ok, but if it becomes "frequently", then there would be a problem with it affecting weight loss.

Unfortunately, since we couldn't control our eating before surgery, it's hard to just taste and not eventually go back to our old bad habits. I am 2 years and 4 months past my surgery and I do not eat regular sugar. I will taste 2-3 very small bites of something, but that's it. I'm not even tempted to eat more, even after all this time. I think the reason is that I make my own delectable treats at home with fructose or turbinado sugar and take the rest to work to get them out of the house. Check out my profile page for a recipe book specifically for RNY patients or visit www.freewebs.com/recipes-after-rny for photos, ordering information and sample recipes for old-fashioned soft peanut butter cookies and hot fudge pudding cake. Good luck!
