Question:
I am six weeks post op as of yesterday. I feel like I can eat too much.
I feel great. Plus, I don't seem to get sick as often as most on here. I have vomited more in the last week than i have in since surgery. But that is not what I am concerned about. I feel like I can eat too much. Actually I know I can eat more than my two ounces and feel fine. This is very worrying to me because I want to succeed so bad and I am scared that I am going to blow it. I am scared to weigh now because I feel like I am not losing. Will the weight come off any quicker with my protein drinks and vitamins? I am scared that I have done this for nothing. I am suppose to eat nothing but meat for my three, two ounces meals a day. I eat mostly meat and I always eat meat first and just a few bites of whatever everyone else is eating so I don't feel deprived. Is this hurting me? Is it bad that I can and am eating more than my two ounces? I am so worried and scared that this isn't going to work for me. I lost 28 lbs. in 33 days at first and now I am scared to weigh because I don't feel like I have lost anything??? Any advice would help. Thank you~ Candi — Candi B. (posted on July 20, 2002)

I am pre-op, but I have been researching this for 2 years. I understand
your fear, I have the same fear. Here is a tip. If you are losing weight.
Losing your own body fat and not eating too many carbs it should show up
on a KetoStix. You buy them at any drug store. They are about $12.00 for
50 (which you can cut in half and make 100.) Just pee on it and it will
turn various shades of pink purple. The darker it turns the more body fat
is coming off your body. I use them for my Dad who was diabetic and when I
was on the Atkins diet. It works. If you are afraid to weigh use one. It
is an easy why to know you are losing. If it doesn't turn colors, cutting
back the carbs until it does. Then you can feel free to weigh again. Of
course it works better after you have done something like clean house or
exercize, anything that uses energy, because thats when you burn your fat.
Good Luck.

Hi! I am about 10 weeks post op and I too feel like I can eat too much, but
I've managed to lose 56 pounds so far. I can eat a whole 8 oz of yogurt and
that scares me. Sometimes I can only eat 2 or 3 bites of something, but
other times I can eat quite a lot. I think it just depends on the food. I
wouldn't worry and you'll be surprised when you weigh in...Good luck...

Candi - Have you tried weighing your food? I am 10 weeks and I still either
measure or weigh my food. If I can eat it all, fine, sometimes I can't.
But I never go back for more....maybe later after 6 months, when I know
that my stomach will be able to hold a little more....but for now, I AM IN
TRAINING....training to eat the right foods in the right portions. 28
pounds in 33 days is great. What did you doctor tell you about how much
you should lose? Mine said 20-25 pounds a month during the 1st 2 months
and then it will slow down to 10-15 pounds a month. Did your doctor give
you a plan to follow? This is some of the stuff I was advised to
eat....Breakfast: 1 slice of toast with 1 oz of cheese....1/4 cup Cereal or
1/2 cup of grits...Lunch: 1/4 cup of tuna or chicken with fat free mayo and
3 crackers or 1 oz of cheese with 4 or 5 crackers DINNER: 2 oz of fish or
chicken or turkey with a few bites of white potatoes.
Good Luck and keep up the great work.
