Question:
Did anyone have trouble with scar tissue?
My doctor said it took so long for my laproscopic Roux-n-y because of massive scar tissue from a previous gall bladder removal. One week after surgery I could eat things, now my stomach won't tolerate solids and even water can make my stomach hurt and upset. I am getting concerned I may have scar tissue forming inside my little stomach and possibly restricting the stoma. Any ideas? — Thomas M. (posted on July 7, 2002)

Thomas, you don't say how far you are out now. If you are just a few weeks
out, its not unusual to have water hurt when you drink. I experienced that
for a few weeks. And what happens when you say the stomach won't tolerate
solids-do you throw up? Also, most of us are not allowed to eat solids for
the first several weeks-month or more, as our new tummys are
healing/swollen and can't tolerate solids yet. Try pulling back to just
liquids for a day or two and see if that helps. If not contact your doctor
if the pain persists. If your 4 or 5 weeks out and you can't swallow
anything without pain or it comes back up, it may be a stricture.

Hi Thomas: I had scar tissue develop VERY fast and close off my new
tummy....at 5 1/2 weeks post op I had to go in and be stretched to pull
that scar tissue away from my opening....Once they did that, it has been
free sailing ...I can eat anything and tolerate anything.....no
restrictions....I am just a few days short of 11 mos post op and down
#136....
