Question:
When does your taste for food come back??

Hi everyone. I had surgery January 9,2002. My weightloss has been good so far but my taste for food is gone. I asked this question a couple weeks ago and everyone said it is only temporary. My question today is when did you start liking food again??? I try new things all the time and don't like anything. The past 3 weeks I have been living on Wendy's chili and cheese cubes. Before that I was living on La Choy shrimp chow mein. I'd really like to know when things will get back to normal? Has anyone out there NEVER got back to normal? Sure seems like it will never happen for me. Another question, I have heard a few mention the yogurt parfait at McDonalds. Has anyone dumped eating one of those?    — Kim B. My taste for food returned in month 6. Enjoy the rapid weight loss, because you WILL get back to normal. No doubt about that.

Hi Kim, Iam approx. 15 weeks out and I have the same problem as you. But for the last two weeks the taste of food is changing. Things are starting to taste better "Thank God"! Not everything yet tastes good or like they did pre-op. Easter was hard for me because I wanted to pop afew chocolate eggs in my mouth! But I was tooo scare to see if I WOULD dump or not so I didn't eat NONE!! Looks like it will be awhile before I find out if chocolate tastes good. You know everybody is so different and I think the taste of food coming back is soooo gradual that is why we can't pin point the exact month when everything tastes normal again. Hope this helps! Best of Luck to You!!!!

I am 7 months post op, down 100#. My appetite definitly has returned so I do make sure to make smart choices so the WL will continue I am between 20-25 # from goal and just want to make it there. Enjoy the quick loss because it does slow down once you start to eat more. Remember this is only a tool and you need to respect it and treat it as such! Those parfaits from McDonalds are LOADED with refined sugar there is nothing good about eating those. You can make a SF Lowfat version @ home with SF Yogurt, fresh fruit and some Kashi Crunch cereal it is yummy! Enjoy! And good luck...(((hugs))) Melissa =)

Kim, Hi there! You were a week and one day earlier for surgery than my husband,Ron,and I were. We both had ours done on 1-17-02 We are both doing well. I'm down 37# and he is 53# off. As per your question of getting tastes back, I don't think, quite frankly, that we ever lost ours at all....just the capacity for the amounts that you could put in. Good greif, when we were at home convalesing and all we could do was watch alot of TV...the food commercials...and all we could have was BROTH! Well Kim, even though I can't put it in, like Garfield I can't really say for myself that aside from not having a sweet tooth anymore I've been enjoying alot of stuff...just in different ways, like eating a HALF sandwich and when after taking the first couple of bites, removing the top layer of bread and then working on the rest sans/ top layer of bread or maybe as I keep going with the sandwich just(as I call it) cannibalizing it and working on the proteins. It still amazes me that it takes SO LITTLE to make me feel full in comparison to what I USED to take in...and I wonder if the amazement will ever wear off. As for the McDonalds question, I can't say, as I have not tried anything like that for fear of dumping. If I can avoid doing that I WILL. My best to you, Kim in this new way, this exciting new way we have before us.
