Question:
Anyone else have trouble eating apples post-op?
When I eat apples now, I get a little sick to my stomach. I have tried Red Delicious and Granny Smith apples about a month apart now. I couldn't even get half of one without starting to feel sick. No other natural food has really done this to me. (And I don't do sugar.) Anyone else experienced a problem eating apples or does anyone know why this would happpen? — [Anonymous] (posted on January 10, 2002)

I also can only eat about half. Too dense & too much sugar! And the
skin. It's tough any more. I find I do much better if I peel them now. And
I'm 7 yrs out.

funny u should ask!!! an hour ago my honey asked for an apple. i always
peel (with a potato peeler) & core them. well this apple was so
beautiful & smelled so wonderful i just had to have some of it. so, i
sliced off about 10 pieces with the potato peeler & was pleased to see
paper thin slices only about 1 inch wide. results? i havent had an apple
that tasted that good in a long time lol.

I popped in on my neighbor the other day and she had a plate of peeled
apples on her table. I started munching (slowly) on them and they went
down fine. BUT I knew when it was time to stop. That automatic thingy we
have inside of us know tells us when enough is enough. So then the other
day at work I decided to have an apple, peel and all, and I finished about
half of it when, just like before, I knew I had reached my limit. 2-1/2
months post op.

Apples are really bulky and don't go thru the tummy too fast, so it's not
surprising you couldn't eat more than 1/2. I usually can do about 1/4, but
then I also always eat cheese with it (my favorite protein/fruit meal!).
Try ripe pears too, they taste so good and are more liquidy than apples and
might go down more easily.

For some reason I cannot do apples ...they make me feel real yucky inside.
Hard to explain the feeling I get...sorta like being full of air or
something strange like that...hard boiled eggs do the same thing for me. I
thought maybe I was eating them too fast...thus swallowing too much
air...but NO, I ate real slow...and the same thing happend. GO FIGURE!?!?!
