Question:
4-Months Post-op down 50 pounds, should I be down more than this?
I am 5'7" and I started out at 260 and I weigh 210 now. I feel as if I should be down to around 190 by now. Am I doing something wrong? I feel like I can eat to much. For breakfast I can eat two pieces of wheat toast and peanut butter, and I'm only 4-months post op, and I don't feel full or overly full. This scares me. Anyone else out there 4 months post and can eat to much? — Jonna M. (posted on January 2, 2002)

Congrats on the GREAT loss! Around this time I began to eat more and feel
guilty. Dont fret, my loss has continued. We ALL loose at different rates.
Just think WHEN in the past could you have lost this much in such a short
time? Plateaus are normal, check your measurements, when the scale quits
dropping I tend to shrink the most!

Jonna, I think the best answer is: We are all different. I am not quite 4
months post-op (2 more weeks) and I am down 87 pounds. I started out 50
pounds higher than you though and I'm sure that's a factor.
That
said, maybe it's a good idea to re-examine your food choices to maximize
your losses. Peanut butter is a high-fat, high-sugar food, and bread, even
wheat bread, is just pure carbohydrate. I almost never eat bread for that
reason, and if I do, I put low-fat cheese on it so at least there's some
protein involved. For breakfast, I tend to stick to things like leftover
cold meats, non-fat low sugar yogurt, and protein drinks. I find that days
that I start with carbohydrates are FULL of carbs... but if I start with
protein, I am much less interested in food all day.
It's so
important to not be discouraged; your health is already much better and
your weight loss has hardly stopped. You are exercising and eating less so
the weight HAS to come off. :-)

I started out at 250 (BMI of 44.5). At 4 months I had lost 56 lbs. So,
from my point of view, you're doing fine!

Echo the other posters...we are all different. I am approaching 6 months
and am at 73 pounds down. I am shorter than you and started out heavier!
What gets "depressing" is reading about all those fast losers who
have lost 100 pounds in 6 months. But you know what, I am totally grateful
to have lost what I have and just hope I continue losing through my 18
month period. I keep reading the board every day (helps keep me focused on
eating the right things...I tend to "slip" easily and need lots
of reminders!). You are doing great!! You're approaching the place where
you will weight 1xx vs 2xx -- I can't wait to join you!!! Continued
success. Open RNY 7/17/01.

Jonna:
Hi from your buddy! Congratulations on your 50 lbs weight loss. That's
great. I know everyone loses at a different rate. Don't get discouraged.
You looked great the last time I saw you. Give me a call sometime and keep
up the good work!!! Take care...

I FEEL THE SAME WAY YOU DO. I AM 5'2" I STARTED AT 294 I HAVE LOST
54LBS SINCE JULY 3. OTHER PEOPLE TELL ME THAT'S A GOOD LOSS FOR 31/2
MONTHS, BUT I FEEL THAT I AM AT A PLATEAU. I WONDER IF I'M EATING TOO MUCH
OR NOT THE RIGHT FOODS. I'VE TALKED TO PEOPLE WHO HAVE LOST 100 PLUS LBS BY
THEIR 6 MONTH. I'M ALSO SCARED THAT MAYBE I'VE STRECTHED MY POUCH. DR. ROE
SAYS 10LBS A MNOTH IS AVERAGE. SO I HOPE I KEEP LOOSING.
