Question:
Can we use Soy Protein Slim Fast ?
Hi, Hope someone can answer me. Is Soy Protein SlimFast good to drink post op? Also, How about Boost or Carnation Breakfast drinks? Thanks, for the answers I know will come. Also, Thanks to everyone that emailed me about the Teas. ((((SMILE)))). Love, Darline — Darline H. (posted on August 18, 2001)

I have not read the soy Slim Fast. Regular SF has as mcuh sugar as a real
Coke and about as much nutritional value. Boost & Ensure are great ways
to put weight on a child or geriatric patient without OD'ing them in any
vitamins. Milk & CIB are similar, in that the sugar is so high (about
the same as a Milky Way) and the calcium & protein so minimal that it
is not a good exchange if weight loss is the goal. Personally, I would not
risk my health or my wt loss on these high sugar products. I stick with
high protein, low sugar whey products that will mix with water. And water.
Naked water. Cheap, no sugar, low cal and my doc requires way too much of
it! LOL!

Right now I am using the Soy Protein Slim Fast in the powder form. My
dietician recommended it for a little extra protein. It has about 15 grams
and I can mix it with water or milk, usually I mix it with water and lots
of ice and its not that bad, its pretty cheap too, 1 can cost about $5.00.
The Chocolate Delight is sweetened with frutose and only has 12 gr of
sugar. The ready made fruit flavored ones are not ok, they have too much
sugar.
Right after my surgery I used Carnation Instant Breakfast, No Sugar Added
and mixed it with skim milk. I lived on it for 6 weeks. It tasted pretty
good. That is what they started me on before I left the hospital. I hope
this helps.

From what I have read and seen, these all seem to have too much sugar for
those of us who had RNY. I do see some docs and people using the CIB sugar
free though.
