Question:
I think my job is on the line. Will the American Disablilties acts protect me?
I have been going to the doctor for other problems and also it has beed recommended that I have this surgery. However everytime I go to the doctor my boss has a severe chip on her shoulder. The company has had some layoffs and I am scared I am going to be one if I tell them that I am going to have surgery soon. She does not know what for and I dont think I need to tell her. Some one told me that the American disabilities act should protect me. Is this true? Thank you, — [Anonymous] (posted on August 16, 2001)

Check with your Rehabilitation Commission they may be able to help you. I
had to show my weight interfered with my job.

If you are missing intermitten time etc.. talk to HR and get papers filled
out that will protect you. I live in Oregon and had to do that before. I
was covered for intermitten leave and then I went on family leave when I
had my hysterectomy. Watch out for yourself and keep safe ok?
