Question:
What does D.O. stand for?
I'm just wondering. My surgeon has M.D. after his name but his senior associate, who assisted in my surgery, has D.O. after his name. He's addressed as doctor, but is he a MEDICAL doctor? Anyone know? — lalasmommy (posted on August 9, 2001)

A D.O. is a doctor of osteopathy - they receive the same amount of training
as a M.D. but with added studies in manipulation of the body similar to a
chiropractor. I have a friend who's son is one. Her husband was a M.D. and
didn't have a problem with his son going to a school of osteopathic
medecine when he didn't get accepted to a medical school.

D.o. also signifys that these people are trained in a more holistic manner,
they look at the person body mind and soul from my understanding, and they
usually listen and talk more with their patients.
