Question:
Anyone lost over 100 lbs in less than six months please share diet??
Hi, I am going in for surgery in a week. I have been reading posts on some people that have lost 100 to 150 lbs in less than 6 or 7 months. This is amazing to me, and is something I would like to accomplish myself. If you have done this , can you please share your diet with me, like how long you stayed on liquids, and your diet now. I appreciate any responses! Thanks! — Carey N. (posted on July 23, 2001)

Hello
I definitely think it depends on how heavy you start, I was over 400lbs and
have lost 116 lbs in less than 5 months, I was on soft foods (eggs, cheese,
soups) for probably 2 weeks after surgery, since then I can eat any thing
(just not very much of it)A typical day...... a glass of skim milk, a
budget gourmet meal (most of it)sometimes a few snacks (chips, carrot
sticks, yougurt) and then dinner, a chicken patty a little mashed potato
(whatever my family is having. I also drink approx 100 oz of water and have
at least one protein shake daily...... I think after all you have heard
about dieting that moderation is the key, well this surgery (tool) forces
that and it works
good luck

I lost just about 100 pounds in 6 months. I was on full liquids for 2
weeks, soft pureed foods for the next 6 weeks, and mostly a regular diet (I
was told to avoid seeds, even in cucumbers for a bit) at 8 weeks post op.
I am able to eat almost anything I want. I have never vomitted, but I have
had naseau when I eat too much sugar or fat. A typical day for me is 1 egg
w/cheese, Michellina's meal (like budget gourmet), cheese sticks, and then
a meat/veggie/starch dinner whatever I make for my family. I TRY to get in
at least 64 oz. of water a day. I do not take protein supplements, I try
to get it all in w/food which is extremely difficult (I just can't afford
them, and I haven't found one that I can tolerate) Instead, I try to have
a CIB which can count as a protein and a fluid, so I kill two birds with
one stone. I am currently 9 months post op and down 121 pounds. From 280
to 159 lbs. My iron and b-12 have been a little low in the past, but I am
working on getting those levels up by taking supplements. read my profile
for full details. Good luck with your surgery.

Hi Carey- I had my surgery 4 months ago and I have lost 114 pounds. I was
only on liquids for a couple days, and then I was sent home on pureed foods
for 4 weeks, and then was on soft for 2 weeks, and now I am on regular
foods. I started at 400 pounds. I eat a protein bar everyday, 3 meals a
day, I try to get all my water in a day and exercise daily. I do not eat
any fried foods, and I really pay attention to how much sugar is in food. I
do not eat anything that has more than 6 grams of sugar per serving. My
diet in the past consisted of:
PUREED: vegetables, cream soups, mashed potatoes,I would take a sweet
potato and bake it in the microwave and peel the skin off and pureed it
with a bit of butter and a little diet brown sugar....very good. I would
also go to the deli and get smoked turkey lunch meat ( a few slices) and
would puree that with a little brown gravy in the packages and that was
good also. i would even pureed cottage cheese. I would pureed up a little
of each and put in small container and would get some out at mealtime.
SOFT: scrambled eggs, cottage cheese, tuna, soups, vegetables, just about
anything soft.
REGULAR: I can pretty much eat anything now. I just have to be careful and
chew very well. I still do have a hard time with meat, so I am very
careful. A typical day for me:
BREAKFAST: cheerio's with milk (a small bowl) or a scrambled egg with
cheese or a 1/2 of a bisquit with a little gravy on it.
SNACK: 1/2 protein bar
LUNCH:vegetables and fruit, or a little luchmeat and cheese, or 1/2 of a
frozen lean cusine dinner ( I try not to get ones with alot of meat in
them)
SNACK: 1/2 of protein bar
DINNER: meat, vegetable, salad or 1/2 of a lean cusine dinner
I drink plenty of water.
I hope this helps you and good luck with your surgery.

Hi there. I had the Open VBG Nov14/00. I lost 100 lbs in 6 months as
well. I'm not sure that I did anything that drastic except following my
doctor's rules by eating pureed's for 6 weeks, soft foods for 6 weeks, then
slowly entering normal foods after that. I did walk everyday during the 8
week healing phase and after that stepped up my regime to include deep
water jogging, cardio workouts, weights, and running. I keep a low
sugar/low fat diet and I watch my calories, stick to complex carbs and
avoid junk foods. I probably drink over 100 ozs of water/day. It's always
been protein first with me and low glycemic veggies second. I tend to
avoid fruit, or just eat fruits low on the glycemic index. An excellent
book is called Sugar Busters......it's all about a low glycemic lifestyle.
I can't eat bread, pasta, or rice. Red meat doesn't agree with me and I
eat alot of soy products. Good luck on your upcoming surgery!!!

I started at a weight of "only" 263 and have lost 110 pounds in 6
months. I can say that I followed my doctor's early post-op diet
instructions to a "T". I can't exactly remember them because I
just didn't focus so much on the food. I really don't think that I do
anything special. I include lots of protein and water and just eat what I
know that my pouch can handle. My doctor really encourages a normal life,
away from the diet mentality. I will never label foods as "good"
or "bad". I pretty much eat what I want and what my body dictates
that I can have. I really eat very small amounts of anything. I LOVE not
having dieting and food be the center of my life. I enjoy just being
NORMAL!

I am almost six months post op and down almost 100 lbs..I started out at
288lbs. I was on liquids for a week, then moved to anything I can squish
with a fork. At one month post op I could basically eat whatever I wanted.
I think I do better not obsessing about what I eat. I like to eat so much
more now since surgery,I eat normal. I do think exercise really helps!,also
water, and I notice if I eat a meal that doesn't have meat in it,I get
hungry sooner,Its funny because before surgery I hated meat.

Hi Carey,
I am now 7 months out and have lost a total of 120 lbs, i started at 270,
losing this much weight in as little as 6 months is not always good, my doc
gave me a little he** over this, i have lost almost 80% of weight in
7months, just be careful and do what your doc tells you, i feel great,
except i do get lite headed at times, but i did follow my docs orders to a
T so if you do what your doc tells you, you should have great success, I am
7lbs from goal and i still have a window to lose weight for another yr, so
now i am trying to slow dn the process, which is not as easy as it seems,
good luck kim
