Question:
I bought fat free mayo that is loaded with sugar, is regular better?
Since I am on puree foods for another two days, I was going to make some egg salad. I bought the Kraft Light Mayo, used 1 tsp with one finely chopped egg and upon tasting it I thought seemed sweet. When I checked the label sugar is listed third. Looking at the regular Hellman's label no sugar is listed at all but it has twice the fat. Which better suits our needs for RNY? I am noticing that low fat sometimes means higher sugar. — SusanMaria (posted on June 23, 2001)

Since I rarely eat sandwiches or salad sandwiches, I will die clutching my
jar of Hellman Real Mayonnaise and it will have to be pried from my cold,
dead fingers! The way I look at it is: I don't eat fried foods, and I
really limit my fat consumption. So tonight, I will have my caper and
chive mayonnaise with my grilled salmon...

Same with fat free cheese! Although I have found that Breakstone's 1/3
less fat sour cream is completely acceptable. Go with what tastes best, so
you don't get tired of it and dread using it. But if you use the real
stuff, just make sure you're not using it constantly. Good luck!

At my education seminar the nurse educator, who was the presenter, said
that post op it is best to use regular instead of low fat. She said that
low fat dressings/foods compensate for taste by adding a lot of sugar. Hope
this helps.

I just checked my mayo - I use best foods - low fat mayonaise dressing - it
is the one with the green label - it only has 1g of sugar in
it...............:)
