Question:
Do I not get a full sensation because I am still on liquids?
I just had a lap RNY and because my intestines didnt fully 'wake up' I spent an extra few days in the hospital on a liquid diet. Now that I am home my surgeon wanted me to continue with it for a few more days before progressing to puree and soft foods. I have an overall full feeling but I can slowly drink a cup of broth or a cup of protein shake plus a half cup of yogurt... I dont get full but I stop anyway. It may seem obvious to some of you, but is this because it isnt solid food? — SusanMaria (posted on June 21, 2001)

You are absolutly right in the fact that you don't feel full b/c your still
on a soft food/liquid diet. Liquids for the most part, don't spend any
time in your pouch, they pass right through, and soft foods hang around but
not as long as your solids. Don't worry your just fine. Good Luck

I'm 12 days post-op and just finished my clear liquids phase. Yay! I
noticed the same thing and concluded that it was because of the liquid
factor. Instead of drinking multiple glasses of water during the day, I
fill one of those 32 oz. mugs and sip water from it in the morning and the
evening. It occurred to me that I had gone thru half of the mug before I
actually felt like putting it aside.

Wel Hallelelujah! I am still at 7 days post op and I have been trying
desperately to get a sense of fullness but it has not happened. I am on
liquids and pureed foods too. The hunger pains hit hard today. Thank you
for your question, it eased my mind I keep feeling like I will be the only
RNY paiteint that has not felt full. I have lost 10lbs. I guess that is
oay. Keep the Faith!

I am 7 days post op and am still on liquids also. I also have a time
feeling full and just stop when I think I have eaten enough. My doc said my
stomach was the size of 2 nyquil cups, so I keep trying to imagine if, I
have filled em yet lol. However, I do still get hungry soon afterwards. The
one thing that I found that does fill me up is a recipe, i got off of here
somewhere. I take sugar free pudding and mix it with my protein shake
powder and "WALAAA" you have your protein,it tastes great, goes
down real easy and it is Yummy!! The broth and jello just don't fill me up
enough so I do try to have the pudding atleast once a day. I have lost 18
lbs and 12 in so far, so it must not be interferring with the loss. So good
luck to you!!

Hello and congrats! I am 7 days post-op, and I am SO thankful that I'm not
just losing my mind. I thought I was the only one who still feels like I
can eat a horse. (well, a pony). I can eat approx. 6-8 oz. of liquid/puree
stuff. (yogurt, baby food, etc...) I called my surgeon and he said it's b/c
liquids go through you so fast and your stomach gets hungry again. I'm also
head-hungry and have been since day 1! Who said I wouldn't have an
appetite???!! LOL. God bless and good luck. We'll all get through this.

Thank God that I am not the only one still hungry after all these liquids.
My doctor's nurse said that I don't have hunger pains, just "bowl
noise". I hate to tell her that I can feel and hear the hunger pains.
Of course she told me this right after she told me that she had just eaten
a doughnut! I am going to try the soft pureed diet tomorrow at day 7. I
can't wait for soupy mashed potatoes!
