Each surgeon is different, and yours will probably give you a post-op
eating plan. My surgeons (Jossart/Rabkin) have a patient's guide on their
website - http://www.pacificsurgery.com - which lists the general eating
plan. For myself, the first few days I ate jello, applesauce, crackers and
scambled eggs. I added regular foods each day, starting with soups, hash,
cheese, cream of rice, yogurt, tuna, tofu. By 2 - 3 weeks, I ate whatever
the family was eating, no restrictions. - Kate -

Hi Jamie--Each surgeon is different. My surgeon's instructions were to eat
whatever you can. If you can't eat it, don't. I was served beef
stroganoff in the hospital. I could only eat a bite or two, but that's
what they gave me. To see what I actually ate, visit the <a

section of my website. I also have some recipes and stuff. Filet Mignon
was one of my favorites...2 oz for breakfast, 2oz. for lunch, 2 oz for
dinner. Lots of protein! Also visit the <a

Jamie, My doctor had an eating plan that I was supposed to follow basically
but, it was more a plan for the RNY patients than for the BPD/DS patients.
At the time (2 years ago) I don't think he knew as much about eating habits
of the BPD/DSers as he should have. In the hospital, they only gave me
liquids for the first 4 days and by the 4th day, I was soooo hungry that I
had terrible heartburn and stomach pains. The doc didn't understand that
and took me off of ALL liquids and back on IV thinking that I couldn't
possibly be hungry that soon. He didn't listen to me. I went home with
the instructions to only eat liquids and very soft solids ie: soups and
mashed potatoes. Basically, every day I added my own foods and by week 2
or 3 I was eating pretty much anything except beef and fish. Both of those
bothered me and even to this day, beef can cause me tummy aches if I eat
too much or too fast. I honestly think it's a hit or miss thing and you
have to try and determine what your body will tolerate. I wish you good
luck and tell you to just listen to your own body.
