Question:
Excess Skin?
Hello All...Everyone talks about excess skin and an apron of fat left after weight lose. Is the excess skin really a problem? I am considering having this surgery and do have alot of weight to lose as well as an apron of fat. I am 31 and I am getting nervous that after I lose all this weight I will have all this skin hanging off my bones. All input will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!! — [Anonymous] (posted on March 10, 2001)

At 31 your skin is still very elastic..youth has it's benefits in that
area.. No one can predict for you the amount (if any) the skin that
will remain all depends on genetics of your skin type and elasticity.. I
have seem some girls on here your age never need any plastic surgery
at all. (lucky gals) I on the other hand am 51 and had three children,
hence my skin was NOT ever going to rebound back into shape all by
itself. I had the ambdominoplasty 1/2/2001 and if not for the open
incision I would be very happy with the results.. I don't have to tuck and
fold my panni in my pants any longer I do have a pretty flat tummy now
except for packing and bandages at the moment. After the scar revision
surgery this summer it will look great after all that I have been through
with this I am very pleased and glad I had it done now!! Good thing you
didn't ask me in Jan :-) I just added a new pic to my Photo journal have
a look <a

I had WLS 1/3/01, I am already looking at alot of sagging skin, after a
50lb weight loss. Someday I will have to take care of it, but I would not
allow that to influence your decision to have WLS. Nobody as far as I know
has died from sagging skin. Obesity significantly shortens ones life and
quality of life. Aestically, I look so much better even after 50 lbs, the
puffiness and double chins are gone, in other words, I am happy!
