Question:
Have I really messed up?
I know I am NOT suppose to drink carbonated drinks But I did drink some. Does your pouch stretch a little more after EACH can you drink or does it start stretching after drinking it for awhile? — Leslie B. (posted on February 8, 2000)

Hello... If you ask my friends and family I am very upfront, honest and
supportive... I share these qualities when I participate in support
groups.. I read your question and I feel as though you have answered this
on your own in the first few words.. and I quote 'I know I am not supposed
to have carbonated beverages'... Me personally, I liked to drink soda pre
op but I am now focusing on better health and a better body instead of
trying to outsmart this surgery or do wrong up to a certain point... I
would not risk stretching my new stomach for a soda it's not worth it... It
sounds as if you are looking for someone to say 'it's okay, go ahead, drink
all the soda you want' the members here are also very upfront, honest and
supportive and they also have your best interest at heart so I highly doubt
you will hear that... If I can help e mail me directly... I have had
difficulty with some items now that I am post op but I knew that this would
mean not only giving up some foods and some beverages but dedicating myself
to better living... for life... if what I was eating and/or drinking before
was doing my health and body any good I would not have needed this surgery
in the first place... my suggestion... when you have a taste for soda try
to substitute with water, crystal light or juice... it doesn't even have to
be food related... read a book, take a walk, give yourself a manicure or
jump in a bubble bath... either way you WIN! :-) I wish you the best... and
I hope this helps you... Take Care

I drink Diet pop also, am 9 months post op and have reached my goal weight.
I asked my doctor and he said as long as it dosent give me a upset
stomach, there should be no problem, and it does not stretch out your
pouch. So I guess it's how it affect you. I have not had any problems.

Leslie, before my surgery I drank alot of diet pepsi and was told the same
as you. That we were not aloud to drink it. Well, this was very hard for
me to do because I was addicted to it. Nothing I drank would taste like I
could drink it forever and I always have to be drinking something. I tried
Crystal light the regular kind. I thought it was awful after a couple of
days drinking it. But Crystal light makes a drink called Body Refreshers
it is excellent has the same calories as the regular. I love it and drink
nothing else except water. I think the best kind is the Strawberry, kiwi,
Tangerine mix. They do not sell this kind already mixed. So you would
have to buy the mix. It is wonderful and does not leave an after taste in
you mouth. Good Luck.

Whether or not you are supposed to drink carbonated beverages depends on
your particular surgeon. Mine allows them after so many months and I drink
diet Pepsi every day and have had to problems. I do burp a great deal
because the pouch is small and the air bubbles need to get out! I have had
no problems at all with Diet Pepsi.....Diane
