Hi. I get a lot of requests for this kind of information. I am trying
(hard) to get my "patient resources" page posted on my website so
anyone can go there and learn about insurance approval for plastics.
www.drLoMonaco.com and www.BodyLiftHouston.com should be up in a week so
feel free to check there!

I am a precertification nurse and will tell you that all plans have
specific requirements. Typically, for this issue, the criteria will want
documentation by the surgeon that the excess skin is causing chronic skin
breakdown, yease infections or rashes that don't respond to conservative
treatment ie:topical ointments, oral medications.(antifunguals,
antibiotics)They will require a list of all medications and duration of
use. They may also require documentation of 18 months of stabilized weight
maintainence.
I recommend you contact your insurance company's customer service dept. and
ask for a copy of their criteria regarding this issue. They are obligated
to provide this information to you.
