Question:
i'm a litte over 4 weeks and I too can eat what i want. why?

My surgeon told me that i can eat anything i want to eat at my 4week check up. So yes, i have had pizza and other foods like that.. it didnt hurt me but now i dont see myself losing as much as i did the first 3weeks of post op.. although, i did have a medical condition that didnt allow me to eat or drink anything....what should i do...    — bmhart (posted on May 5, 2005)

My surgeon put me on high protein and literally no carbs until I made my goal. You may do just fine eating what you want but it surely didn't work for me, if I didn't do high protein I lost very little to no weight. I am 2 and a half years out and I still do high protein to lose those lbs I put on..Good Luck and hang on, you are in for the ride of your life. Enjoy the weight loss process!!! Take your measurements regularly it is great for your ego!!

I wonder if maybe your surgeon gave you clearance to eat anything from a surgical healing perspective. My surgeon told me he would tell me to eat anything I want, but the nutritionist would come after him if she found out! As far as I'm concerned, he did his job - cut & stitched me up properly, but after that - it's me & my nutritionist. And mostly me because I only saw her every couple of months! Good luck, Jo

Sure, you can eat anything you want... but you HAVE to make the right choices. The tool doesn't work unless you do the right thing :) Remember, HIGH protein, LOW carb. Stay away from sugars and fats, drink lots of water. Angie http://www.geocities.com/tiger_angie

My surgeon did the same thing. I didn't start out with good choices and lost more slowly than a lot of others. I also plateaued a lot. Be careful in your choices of food. I know that carbs go down a whole lot easier than protein, but always do your protein first. If you find yourself grazing, try a protein shake as it helps fill you up and satisfies a lot of cravings. You can email me at [email protected] if you want to ask more questions about eating 4 weeks out. Good luck!!

I know that everyone else is going at this with a different perspective, and they are absolutely correct. My question is do you not dump, or get food caught, or otherwise have some sign that you should not be eating foods that are bad for you? I couldn't even handle scrambled eggs at four weeks post-op. I am four and one half months out, and go through hell with high fats, sugar, steak, etc. Might want to ask for an Upper GI to find if all is well with your staple line. Good luck to you.
