Question:
Is a revision more risky than the first WLS?
My WLS doctor told me that a revision had a much higher risk for death than the first WLS due to the "extra stomach" now being attached to other vital organs. He stated that this made the revision much more dangerous. Has anyone heard this before or does anyone have information regarding this? — TBarr (posted on February 4, 2005)

Revisions are riskier but can be doine safely. What part of the country are
you in. There are surgeons who specialize in cases like yours. Dr Philip
Schauer in cleveland is one of those.

Absolutely revisional surgery is more risky, but I don't know if it's for
the reason your surgeon stated. I hope you will consider the DS as a
revision procedure. Please read this paper before you proceed:

He is talking about possible adhesions. He will have to separate the organs
by cutting the adhesions. Adhesions are scar tissue in your abdomen from
previous surgeries. My DH gets a lot of adhesions. Some people don't get
them as badly. The surgeon has to be careful not to nick something that
shouldn't be cut and the surgery takes longer so you are under anesthesia
longer. All risk factors. Good luck.
