The Thin person inside by Barbara Thompson and Weight Loss Surgery A
lighter look at a heavy subject by Dr. Terry Simpson. Good luck with the
research. Also attend some support group meetings before you decide there
is a lot of information shared at them.

The two books that I found I liked best are (In order of favoring):
1.) The Patient's Guide to Weight Loss Surgery Everything You Need to Know
About Gastric Bypass & Bariatric Surgery By April Hochstrasser, PhD
with Foreword by S. Ross Fox M.D. (Former President, American Society of
Bariatric Surgery.)
WHY: Because it has a whole section dedicated to Personal Stories. Not
just positive outcome stories, but also negative outcomes; some stories
saying they'd do it all over again, others saying they wouldn't recommend
obesity surgery for anyone. Personally, I prefer to know the good, the
bad, and the very ugly, so this book was truely very helpful for those who
don't like to keep their head in the sand about the realities of WLS.
2.) The Doctor's Guide to Weight Loss Surgery How to Make the Decision
That Could Save Your Life By: Louis Flancbaum, M.D. and Erica Manfred with
Deborah Flancbaum.
WHY: The book has a simple and easy-to-use format. It has a section for
Frequently Asked Questions, as well as recipes. The resources that are
presented in the text is fabulous for further research and reading.
Good Luck!

Sorry I can't recommend any books---but I can recomend some websites,
starting the DS forum right here at OH:
http://www.obesityhelp.com/morbidobesity/surgtype-forums/DS
Then there's duodenalswitch.com and my surgeon's website, ccfos.com (don't
forget to add the www. before each of these.)
Check them out--I think you just might find the DS offers more of what
you're looking for.

Went into Barnes and Nobles last week and looked under gastric bypass
surgery. Found a book by Susan Maria Leach published by William Harper Co
and is has some good info. She talks about many things pertinant to our
situation, from the struggles pre op, to those post op, to neccesities of
our new lives (such as protein) and also many good recipes (and some are
really delicious). Of course this is her own opinion, but she has been
successful in keeping it off since 2001 (278 to 135). It is worth at least
going to the store and taking a look at it. (and no, I am not getting
compensated in anyway for this...just trying to share info on a book I
think has some good info for people in our situation.) Good luck and take
care.
