Question:
Breast implants and TT

I had a TT and breast implants 10 days ago at the same time as a hernia repair. My question is when others have had the implants, did they have to fall into place or did you just come out and they were already inplace? My surgeon palces them a little high and with massage and time they fall into a pocket and form out there. Also, there is quite a bit of swelling at both sights, breast and tummy. How many weeks does it usually take for the swelling to subside. And I have no feeling all across my tummy, will feeling ever return or just some of it? Everything seems to be healing properly. I know it could be months but I'm just curious as to about how long it has taken others.    — Tammara D. (posted on September 17, 2004)

I had my TT almost 5 weeks ago, and there is still some numbness in the area. Most if not all of the feeling in the area should come back. Remember, nerves were cut. As for the implants, I didn't have them although I did discuss it with my PS. He said, it is not at all uncommon for WLS post-ops who have implants to require revisions to implants due to the skin's lack of ability to not continue to stretch out. I think your surgeon was smart to place them high, so if they do drop a little, they should end up in the appropriate place. I was plenty swollen from my TT. It gets better daily. He said it could be up to 3 to 6 months before I see the true end result. So far, so good, although I am feeling that I will never look like someone who was not MO. Between age and extended years of obesity, there is only so much a Dr. can do, and we as former MO people, should be realistic. I am though, pretty darn satisfied wearing a size 4!!!!!!

They should drop in the next 6-8 weeks and the swelling should also diminish. Please avoid all alcohol and anything even moderately high in sodium or you will take a chance on fluid retention that takes a long time to dissipate. The numbness takes a very long time to fade. It's about the nerve endings reconnecting...hope you love your new body :-) Read my profile for more about my PS experiences DN

Tammara, my implants were also high and my surgeon told me they could take up to 6 months to drop in. So when I had my second reconstructive surgery 6 weeks later, he just opened up my muscle wall and extended the pocket. Now they are perfect, round and beautiful. Who thought I would ever have breasts that didn't lay on my tummy!!!! Good luck to you!
