You will not be able to lift anything over 5 lb. for at least 8 weeks. And even though you had LAP I thing you'll not going to be able to do those 10-12 hr days. Your body still needs time to heal on the inside. Good Luck, Robin W 11/17/03 218/144/115

It will be a while before you will be able to lift 50lbs. Regardless of the lap or open surgery, your body is learning to live on MUCH less fuel, you will be very, very tired. I couldn't imagine working 10-12 hour days even at 6 wks post op.

You really should call your surgeon and ask this question. I was told no more than 5 lbs for 2 months and then very limited for a while after that. You don't want to injure yourself. Be up front with the surgeon about the weight lifting issue at work. Good luck.

You need to contact your surgeon before you return to work, especially under the circumstances you will be under. I cannot imagine any surgeon allowing you to return to work for such long hours and lifting so much weight. If you only had to sit in a chair, even 10-12 hours would be too much. I agree with the other responders here who say how difficult it is to get to the point where you're not absolutely worn out due to the low number of calories you'll be taking in.
