I am only 3 months post op rny, but I have been using it since about 3
weeks out. It itched at first and in expensive. I only use twice a day AM
and PM. Although I have never had a scar like this before I think that I am
heal ing quite well. I am happy with the scar! Hope this helped!!

Hi Janey, have you tried using vitamin e oil for scars, I tried it and it
worked wonderfully for me and it is less expensive then mederma. It comes
in a small bottle and you can usually get it at any drug store even at
walmart and it only costs about $3.00 so try that first if ya haven't
already. I t is straight oil and you can rub it directly on your scars.
good luck!

Try Palmers cocoa butter with vitamin e. It's less expensive and has worked
great for me. You can get it at Walgreens or any drug store.

I have not used Mederma, but a few that I know have, and say it really
isn't worth it. As for vitamin E, when my son gashed his forehead with a 1
inch vertical opening, I used vitamin E twice daily on the scar for over 9
months and he still looks like Harry Potter, 9 years later. I didn't
bother with my RNY scars. I am 13 months post-op and only 1 of my lap
scars has keyloided. The others have really disappeared. I have had 2
previous abdominal surgeries where I had been cut like a c-section on the
bikini line (like I'd EVER wear one, LOL!!) with normal healing and
nothing special done to the scar (which was used for both surgeries) I
have only a fine, white line which can only be seen when I lift my skin
away from it. I am 4 years out from the last time this scar was cut. It
has looked this way for approximately 2 years. I honestly wouldn't waste
the $$ on Mederma, and let nature take it's course. Good luck!!

Hi Janey...I used Palmer's Cocoa Butter lotion on my incision scars after
my breast reduction, and they have completely faded (I had the BR 10 months
ago). I used it every morning after I got out of the shower and massaged
it into the scars. I found that the mederma was too expensive and I got
the same results with the Palmer's in about the same amount of time it
would have taken the mederma to flatten and fade out the scars. Plus the
Palmer's smells better :o) Good luck! Denise 316/158

I used it and it made my skin dry and flake off. I had better luck with
Scargo for fading. My scars did keloid, so I had them injected to make
them lie flat. Then massaged with Scargo for months. Maybe I could've kept
it up longer, but the scars are well faded. And it's cheap to use. 1 bottle
lasts forever

I used mederma on my breast lift scars and about six months later when I
went to see another plastic surgeon about another procedure he asked to see
where the scars were and were amazed that they had basically faded. He
didn't think it was the mederma though. Supposedly, its not the cream that
does it, its the constant massaging. I would just be very wary about
vitamin E. Some people get good results, but its been shown to make some
people's scars worse.
