Question:
Well...

Will I ever be able to enjoy hot sauce again? I love all the hot stuff such as jalapenos.    — Marti T. (posted on November 11, 2003)

I never was a big spicy hot person before surgery, but love it now. In fact, I make my own hot sauce now. My first food cravings were for Mexican food. I enjoy much more spice in my food than ever before. The more flavor, the better. I'm guessing you wouldn't want to drink the stuff, though, for fear of creating an ulcer, but a few drops here and there don't seem to be a problem for me, and neither of my dietitians nor the surgeon had any objections.

Most people can, there is no added sugar in hot sauce. Just make sure you read your labels. I have eaten habanera pepper and pepper sauce, and hot salsa, all along. For me there is no problem, the hotter the better for me. But always try it first at home just incase you get sick, better safe than sorry.

I started eating hot sauce around 3 weeks post op on my eggs. I also eat jalapenos, salsa, & other hot peppers with no problem. Only problem is not being able to drink afterwards...ouch!! :)

Actually, since my Lap RNY, the hotter the better. What I have lost in food amount I have gained in flavor!<br> I especially love anything with curry. YUM!

Every day I have at least one bowl of soup and I add hot sause, hot peppers, onions, green peppers and fat free cheese. I love it. I think I like it because it warms me up. Since I lost so much weight my hands get cold. Good luck!
