I eat the fish steaks that are canned like sardines in soybean oil, and I
haven't had any problem. But then I rinse them, just a little bit, under
water before I eat them.
As far as the calcium, I was in my local pharmacie and I noticed that they
have started carrying quite a number of vit/minerals in liquid form, but
they are quite expensive as compared to pill form. 15 servings for about
$10, but in the early stages of being a post op, it might just be worth it.
The other problem is the sugar content, be careful.
