I'm 13 months post-op DS. http://www.duodenalswitch.com On my days off, my
typical diet is 2C coffee w/milk, a 3-egg cheese or cheese and vegie
omelet, 1 slice toast w/butter, and a couple pieces of bacon or sausage if
I'm in the mood for them. Lunch might be a 1/4 lb cheeseburger no bun, or a
piece or two of chicken, or a can of tuna mixed w/mayo, a good sized salad,
and 1/2 bagel or a flour tortilla or piece of toast or tortilla chips or
1/4-1/2C rice or potatoes. Dinner about the same. When working I have to
either eat out (which is unsatisfying due to the places available) or carry
it. I'm lazy and can never seem to get it together to make a nice lunch,
plus there's no refrigeration, so I eat a lot of protein bars. My favorites
are Designer Double Chocolats and Premier Protein Eight chocolate coconut,
30g protein each and 7 and 0g sugar respectively. I'll eat 1-2 for lunch
and a snack and sometimes even breakfast. Occasionally, like today, I'll
splurge and have a muffin or scone from my favorite bakery, or a whole
bagel w/cream cheese; then I have extra protein at meals and minimal
starch. I aim for 120g protein and at least 2 servings of vegies daily,
enjoy butter and other fats (we don't absorb most of it), and try to keep
carbs to a minimum, not always successfully! Chris, DS 6/11/02, 378-230,
BMI 57-35, sz 38-18...so far!

I'm not sure if anyone really has a typical diet when we're a year out. I,
like most, try and get in my proteins - I don't use shakes though so I have
to work to get it in through real foods. I eat moz cheese sticks nearly
every morning for breakfast, Jerky as a mid-morning snack. Lunch is
usually a 1/2 sandwich - whole wheat bread stacked with wafer meats, cheese
and lettuce with whole mayo. Dinner is whatever the family eats - meat
(about 3 ounces) and veggies (about 1/2 cup) and MAYBE a bite or two of
whatever carb their having. I am a nightowl so usually have some kind of
late evening snack - cottage cheese, a fudgecicle, some wafer meat, more
moz cheese, or some such thing. I'm 12 months out tomorrow and have lost
174 pounds with my RNY.

Here is what I had yesterday. Breakfast - one egg, two sausage links, one
slice rye toast, coffee. Mid Morning half a Real Meals Shake. Lunch - One
slice of Pizza, Dinner - About 3 ounces of steak with about half a cup of
rice. Before bed another half a Real Meals shake. Plus I had some popcorn
to snack on.

I am exactly 13 months and I eat like a NORMAL person. The only difference
you would notice is that I focus more on protein than the other stuff. A
typical work day I have some cottage cheese and crackers for breakfast or
snack, sometimes a designer whey shake for breakfast or snack. For lunch I
go out with co-workers alot and that means fast food so I eat 1/2 of
grilled chicken breast sandwich or hamburger and some fries (probably 10
fries). In the afternoon I might have some nuts or finish my sandwich.
For dinner I eat whatever I cook for the family... meat, starch, vegetable
and a few bites of dessert. I almost always have a glass of wine. What I
want to stress is that it is what I consider NORMAL eating and moderate
portions are more than enough. Now for some additional truth -- yesterday
I ate junk food all day. We were away for the weekend and in the car on
the way home we had chips, pretzels, tortilla chips, fritos...you get the
picture. It was fun and delicious and today I'm back to regular eating.

I am just shy of the 13 month mark. Here is what I have to eat on a typical
weekday: Breakfast-2oz Jack Link's Teriyaki Beef Jerky with 1 oz low fat
cheddar cheese; Mid morning-2oz low fat cheddar cheese with 1 serving
turkey pepperoni slices; lunch-4oz ground turkey (turkey burger) with 1 T.
A-1 sauce and 1/2 c. green beans; afternoon snack-1 fresh peach;
Dinner-Louis Rich Heat'n'Eat chicken breast with honey mustard and 1/2 c.
peas sprayed with I Can't Believe It's Not Butter Spray; Evening snack-a
few cups of Smart Pop Kettle Corn. Sometimes I eat more, sometimes I eat
less. I try to stay around 1200 calories per day. I make sure that I take
in more grams of protein than carbohydrates, but I am not one who follows
an extremely low-carb meal plan. It is doable, but it is difficult for me
to maintain. I just make sure that I get most of my carbs from fruits and
veggies (and I've gotta have my popcorn). I very rarely eat any bread or
pasta. I also make sure to take my vitamins and drink at least 64 oz. of
water each day.
