Question:
Hernia covered, Pannis not
I am having surgery to fix my hernia an would like to have a pannis removed at the same time. My insurance is paying for the hernia but I will have to pay for the pannis removal. Anyone have any idea how much (a ball park amount?) this will be? — debbie11092002 (posted on June 23, 2003)

My hernia repair was $3800 and my panniculectomy was $3040. The same
surgeon did both surgeries. Insurance denied the panniculectomy and my
surgeon talked with them and they verbally agreed to pay for it. I had
surgery 4 days later and now they aren't paying for the panniculectomy.
They paid for the hernia and all the hospital charges. My surgeon is still
appealing it but told me not to worry aobut his charges as long as the
hospital was paid (he's a dear, dear, man).

I had both done about 4 months ago along with gall bladder removal. I had
to pay for the panni removal at a rate of 4,800. All done by my original
WLS.
