Question:
Can someone recommend a good iron supplement...?

My iron has started to drop recently, and I don't believe the multi-vitamin with iron that I take is doing what its supposed to do anymore. Can someone recommend a tried-and-true iron supplement, as well as some iron rich foods they've used to get their iron back to normal levels? Any recipes for spinach (yuck, I hate spinach but I'll eat it if I have to) would be great, too! Thanks, Lisa (PS - I'm 14 months post op open RNY...maintaining a 110 pound loss!)    — sssuzie1 (posted on June 19, 2003)

Hi, I have a website link on my profile page to my iron supplier. Her sight is recommended by my doctor and her prices are great. Good luck, Cindy

I had low iron, especially since my reconstructive surgery. I like the carbonyl iron that vitalady sells (www.vitalady.com). It doesn't make me nauseous or constipated, is gentle on the pouch, and absorbed by those of us w/ the RNY. It has really helped my iron levels.

two great spinach recipes (from someone who doesn't like it either lol): Take a bag of fresh spinach and stir-fry it quickly in a pan of olive oil and garlic. Add a bit of butter and enjoy. I find it better this way than canned or frozen! Second Spinach Frittata - in a pie dish spread out evenly 1/4 cup of frozen spinach (defrosted and excess water squeezed out), 1/2 tomato, chopped, 1/4 onion, chopped, 4 or 5 large mushrooms, chopped, 1/2 cup of defrosted chopped broccoli. Beat 4 eggs and pour over veggies. Bake in the microwave (or oven) at high until set - takes about 5 to 7 minutes depending on your micro. Works best if you take a glass cereal bowl and turn it upside down and then put the pie dish on top of that. Cooks more evenly. When frittata is set sprinkle liberally with favorite shredded cheese (I do moz and cheddar) and bake an extra minute to melt cheese. Cut into wedges. Makes MANY meals :>) Good luck with getting your iron up!
