Question:
untted health care insurance & plastic surgery
Has anyone out there been approved for plastic surgery after gastric bypass surgery ? United is telling me they dont cover but they also told me they dont cover the by-pass, but I see where they have approved others. I had my surgery with another insurance co but have recently changed to United Health Care. Please email me at [email protected] — mmorris (posted on May 24, 2003)

Martha, I was just denied by UHC for a panni. I was told that it is very
difficult to get them to approve plastic surgery. The denial letter said
that they need documented proof of fuctional impairment. I sent
documentation from my pcp, but I guess that wasn't good enough. I do plan
on appealing, so we will see what happens. Good luck to you!

Consult with your doctor about this, but my surgeon's nurse told me that I
should formulate a letter telling them the extra skin impared my sex life
and my ability to void (use the bathroom)... They said to be descriptive.
Also, for those of you looking for an upper body lift, I was told by a
friend that she got approved by saying the extra skin around her upper arms
would rub and cause so much rubbing it would bleed. but due to the fact
that you have to use deoderent it was unable to heal properly... Just some
suggestions.
