Hello. I am just 14 days post-op myself and still trying to figure things
out as well. However, I thought I would share with you that I am taking a
Calcium supplement of 600 MG with vitamin D. I break it in two and take
half in the morning and half in the evening. From what I have been told,
it obsorbs better that way. I also understand that "chewable
tums" are a great source of calcium. Hope this helps and God Bless!

Before we spend t much time on this subject AGAIN, PLEASE CHECK THE
LIBRARY, no need to get the debate going. Tums aren't gonna do it. You
need Calcium Citrate, not Carbonate. Please make sure you get any form of
citrate, I take Citracal Liquidtabs, you drop them in water, they fizz,
dissolve and taste like tang. heather (open rny 8/15, down 102lbs)

What was suggested by my Dr. I take 2 Tums a day, which fills your 1500 mgs
required amount. (chewable and they don't taste bad) LAP/RNY 5 weeks post
op down 42lbs.

And as for myself- I strongly suggest talking to vitalady.com. I
personally feel she knows what she is talking about. I am pushing 3 years
out and even though I have been taking Calcium Citrate daily, I am not
taking nearly enough! I am starting with Vitalady NOW, and soon after I
have my baby- I am scheduling a dexascan to seen what kind of damage I may
have done with under-supplementing.

hiya. there is a long standing debate over the calcium issue. i suggest you
get a dexascan now so you have a baseline of what your bone density is. if
you read on doctor's sites, they are split over which calcium to take.
personally, i take calcium citrate because it doesn't need digestive juices
to breakdown like the carbonate does. i had roux-en-uy and i produce little
to no stomach acid anymore. i just had a dexascan yesterday and i'm curious
to see the results since i'm also post menopausal.
good luck,

I spoke with my gyn dr yesterday because osteoporosis (sp) runs in the
family, add RNY on top of this what do you think, I also 42, post
menopausal (another added problem) she said Calcium Citrate with vitamin D
to break it down and no less than 1500. (vitalady is right on this one and
as soon as I run out of my current calcium I will be ordering hers) the
price is right and you can mix it in your protein drink....

Hi Stacey, I use a LIQUID CAL-MAG+
— Janet S.

Hi Stacey, I use LIQUID CAL-MAG+ it has 300IU of Vit D; 600mg of Calcium
Citrate and 300mg of magnesium in a dose which is 1 tablespoon and it taste
orange flavor which is not bad at all. So I take two doses, 1 in the am and
then 1 in the pm. I get it at my Vitamin store. It is easier than taking
all those big pills and I'm getting enough for the day. I'm 11 months out
and down 94 lbs with very good blood work reports.

CALTRATE CHEWABLES! THEY ARE TASTY AND PROVIDE YOU WITH THE NEEDED CALCIUM/
VIT.D. GOOD LUCK!

Do not go with the Caltrate chewables or other Caltrate vitamins. Despite
the misleading name, they are NOT calcium citrate - they are calcium
carbonate. And, for the several hundredth time, post-op RNY patients do
not have the stomach acid needed to properly metabolize and absorb calcium
carbonate. There is no question about the absorption of calcium citrate
in post-op RNY's. There's major doubt about the absorption of calcium
carbonate in post-op RNY's. Get the Twinlab chewable calcium citrate
wafers or go for the Calcium Citrate capsules from Vitalady or even go with
the Citracal capsults. But DO go with calcium citrate. Your bones will
thank you for it...JR
