Question:
2.5 weeks post op What quantity of food should I be able to eat?

Though I am only 2.5 weeks post op I feel like I can eat way too much food. Nothing seems to bother me and I can eat almost a whole baked potato. Does this seem like a lot?    — tturner (posted on March 22, 2003)

Tammy, everyone's dtr is different, but, I was still on puree at 2.5wks, what does your docotor or Nutrionist day? Let them be your guide. If your dtr says nothing and you don't have a Nutrionist, i suggest you speak up or get one. Good Luck to you. Heather (Open RNY - 8/15 - 305/204/150)

Tammy, if you look through the library you will find so many questions from people who are scared because it looks like they can eat a lot some of them were posted by me! I guess we are all different, different size pouches, different size stomas, etc. and the amount we all can eat varies. Also, you will find you will eat different amounts on different days. As long as you are losing, I wouldn't worry. I could eat probably eat the inside of a baked potato at 2 1/2 weeks out, but then think before surgery I would eat that, a 8 ounce steak, nice big salad, slice of cake for desert and top it all off with 24 ounces of mountain dew. If I tried that now, I would be rushed to the emergency room! Good luck!

It really depends on the size of your pouch. Different surgeons make different sized pouches. Mine happens to be pretty small and at 2 months out I can't eat more than 2 ounces of most things. There always seem to be a few things that people can eat more of than they would think they could. I can eat a ton of yogurt, like 4 or 5 oz. I would definitely ask your surgeon what size your pouch really is and how much you should be eating. I have found that even though I can eat it does not mean I should. I measure everything so I know that what I am eating is the right amount. I also use fitday.com and see a nutritionist every week for aweigh in and to check my intake for the week. Good Luck!
