i am six weeks out now and it three weeks out I ate crackers. (saltines)
Wasn't supposed to but i just needed some crunch! No problem. It does
seem like all the docs are different. I can't beleive that some let you
eat oatmeal and mashed potatoes and etc. I thought the whole purpose of
this was to lose weight and not eat those fatting things. I think what a
lot of it is, is that this is so new and a lot of the docs just don't know

I am six weeks post-op, and I have eaten crackers for weeks now. I probably
broke into the "DO NOT EAT LIST" immediately. I was eating
Progresso Chicken and Vegetable soup at about 5 days out. Just remember to
CHEW things up. You'll know really quick if it will or will not agree with
you. So I cheat, I even sneak Girl Scout Cookies and ice cold milk. Granted
its only 1 cookie, but hey live a little. Plus I am down almost 45 pounds
in 6 weeks. Cheating is perfect thing to do in my book!

My dietician had me eating crackers at about 1 week after surgery. I ate
things I wasn't suppose to yet. But, I find if I chew a million times I am
ok.

My surgeon's schedule included eating tuna or egg salad on saltines at
three weeks. That is when liquids ended and pureed began. Now, I am at
six weeks and I just started regular food. I am still really confused as
to what I can eat at this point. I wish there was a list at each stage.
Oh, I can add that for myself the crackers were and are too heavy in my
tummy yet so I have stopped eating them for a while.

My surgeon has us eating on Day 3. I am 10 days post-op and I am having
chicken salad for dinner. I also do NOT have to puree any food.

I discussed this with the medical staff @ BTC in Wylie TX. They recommend 1
week "see through" diet followed by liquids you cannot see
through then semisoft and finally soft foods. The reasons are many however,
allowing your "Pouchie" to heal is the most pervelant. Now this
is assuming you had an open RNY or relative of.

Everyone is different, but at 3 weeks post-op, crackers were too
"doughy" for me. They would sit in my pouch like a rock. Around 5
weeks I could eat three saltines, but any more would make me feel stuffed.
I am 6 mons. out now and can do no more than 4 unless I eat them slowly
then maybe 5.....Best of luck!!...Karen (lap rny- 6 mons. post-op-down 119
pounds!)

Hi Gary! I too am 3 weeks post-op and feel the need to crunch sometimes.
I found some cheese crackers called "Teddy Cheddy's" that have No
sugar per serving of 23 crackers (they are really small--maybe an inch
big), and they dissolve really well in my mouth, especially if I let them
sit in my mouth for a few seconds. I found them at Wal-mart. ps--I don't
eat all 23 crackers only about 3-4 at a time!!

HI Gary,
I'm just about 4 weeks post op and I am able to eat about 2 saltines within
a 8 hour period. I just take my time and chew. I've been on a pureed diet
since 2weeks post op. Although I'm on a pureed diet I haven't pureed my
food, just "CHEW". So I'm basicly wasting alot of food as a
result, of being full. As I was told by my nutricionist, take your time
and listen to your body. -37lbs...Nea

We are 4 weeks post op and have been eating saltines since 1 week post op.
Have no idea why the surgeon recommended diets vary so much - but they do!
We've even done ok with crispy taco shells/tortillas if well chewed. After
having someone recommend triscuits, I (Renee) tried them - no good. I've
since tried them a couple of times and vomit every time. Good luck!

My doc has us on "clear liquids" for 1 week - then we can add
vitamins and protein supplements to our clear liquids!
After one month, we are on "soft foods" for a while . . .
Another local doc his patients on three months of purees. It has to drip
thru the holes of a colander, if you're going to eat it. Anything you
want, as long as you can puree it, and get it to drip thru the colander.
Pureed pot roast! poreed oatmeals, grits, eggs, omigod, I'm making myself
SOOOO hungry! Gotta go make a shake, Pure Whey Protein, Chocolate, that is
. . .

You can puree anything. First cut into pencil eraser sized bits then chew
to death.
