Question:
I just ate almost an entire banana, Is this too much?

Before I would only be able to eat about 1/2 or 2/3 of a small 6-7" banana. Today I ate almost the whole thing and probably could have if I hadn't gotten scared and thrown it away. I am currently almost 7 months post and don't want to risk messing anything up. My usual caloric intake is between 800-1100 calories, protein has been fine. I've quit smoking (again) so the munchies are getting to me and I tend to reach for the popcorn, but other than that I believe i'm doing fine until today and ate a banana (doesn't that just sound silly!!). Some advice please.    — Irene M. (posted on March 14, 2003)

I am only a little over 3 months post op and I can finish a whole banana in about 20- 30 minutes. It kind of scared me too. I wish I knew the answer but I just think that its a banana and not a bag of chips so I dont feel too guilty. This is a tool and as long as you are making healthy food choices (which it sounds like you are) you will succeed.

Hey there!!! You are worried about a banana? You really shouldn't be. Remember those big bags of chips you would scarf down? I do. I would much rather have the banana!!

I can eat a whole banana with peanut butter smeared on it! And I just had an upper GI which showed my pouch is very little. Compared to a vertebrae which showed in the picture, my pouch is the size of the distance between the two vertebrae in my spin. It is about 2 inches in length. No problem with eating a banana. Another thing if you smash a banana, it will be at the most 1/2 cup or 4 oz of food. You are doing great!

I believe Heather meant a minimum of 1000 calories.
