Question:
How do I get the supplies to give myself B12 shots?
Please let me know what I need to do to get the syringes and vials for B12 shots. Don't want to pay $15 for each visit to the Doctor to get a shot. Thanks!! (I am 5.5 weeks post-op. Start 277/Current 257) — Karen W. (posted on March 13, 2003)

You need a written Rx from your doc. With ins mine is $3, without $7. The
syringes are 4/$1 at Walgreen's or the like

Do you have to take B12 in "shots"? My surgeon told me I could
take it sublingually (under the tongue) once a week. That's MUCH less
expensive than shots, but be sure to check with your doc first. There may
be some medical reason why he prefers injections. Good Luck!

When you get the syringes, ask for BD extra fine short needle. They won't
hurt. You may need a prescription from your doctor for the syringes. Some
pharmacies require that even if it isn't the law. You can buy syringes
individually, by the 20-pak bag or by the box. it just depends on how many
you want to get at a time.

If you don't have a prescription for the syringes and the pharmacy tries to
make you think you have to have one, protest big time. They are NOT a
prescription item. I just happen to know of a woman with Type 1 diabetes
who was given a hassle about buying a small number of them. Her
endocrinologist called that pharmacy and set them straight. I have never
had to have a prescription to get them, and since they aren't all that
expensive, I don't usually bother to get a prescription. My insurance
would pay but it wouldn't save me enough to bother with it. However, if
you can take the B12 subcutaneously (just under the skin) get the highest
gauge you can get. For some reason, the higher the number, the thinner
the needle.

Why do you ask? did you rDr. tell you to take b-12 shots? If not how about
talking to the Dr. to see IF you NEED b-12 shots. Not everyone needs them.
If you do your Dr. will give you necessary prescriptions
