Question:
Are B12 injections covered by insurance? If not how much do they cost?

I have a presription drug clause in my insurance and if the doc writes me a script for a vial of b-12 it is covered. I have to pay a small co-pay. That way, I can give my shots myself ( I am a nurse). But they do offer them at my support meetings and given by the docs. They charge 15.00 a shot.

Mine are not covered, i give them to my self. A 6 month supply cost less then $30, including the syringes. Cheaper then the $10.00 co-pay I would pay for my MD.

Mine are covered by Ins. because my PCP wrote a prescription for them. I got a 1 year supply w/ syringes for my co-pay of $18.00. I give them to myself, it's super easy and totally worth it!

I paid $7 without ins for a 30-shot vial at Costco. Syringes were 4/$1 at Walgreen's.

I get my shots at the docs office....im a wimp. They are completly covered by insurance and they pay like 3 dollars for it. However....that is with their discount. So i have no idea what the actual charge is.

MS. HOLLY LEARN HOW TO DO THEM YOURSELF. I PAY FOR THE GENERIC B-12 AT ECKERDS AND LESS THAN $5 FOR A VIAL THAT HAS 10 MLS IN IT WHICH IS A 10 MONTH SUPPLY UNLESS YOU TAKE THEM WEEKLY AS I DO. SURINGES COST .25 EACH ALL YOU NEED IS A PRESCRIPTION. PUTTING THE SHOT IN THE TOP PART OF YOUR LEG OR HIP DOESNT HURT AT ALL:)

I'm thinking of asking my doc to get the B12 shots also. For those of you self-injecting, is it hard to do? I am by no means a wimp but I am rather lacking in fine motor skills...could never be a nurse and draw blood or do an i.v.! Are the shots a simple poke in the arm or leg? Or do you have to locate the perfect spot - muscle? Appreciate any feedback. Thanks - Anna
