Question:
I am having a problem swallowing the large vitamins.
Can anyone recommend one that is small and easy to swallow? — Tara D. (posted on March 11, 2003)

The ones my doctor has me take are all chewable and over the counter. There
is no problem with them.

My dietician turned me on to Walgreens multiple vitamins with iron, they
are yellow and not very big. Four a day is her suggession. But only after
the first four weeks. Before then, Flintstone chewables.

I'm with you - I can't even dream of swallowing the horse pills I used to
down pre-op! After much research, we settled on Nature's Plus Adult's
Chewable and purchased them on-line at vitaminlife.com. Their prices beat
our local health food store by about 25%. They have a mild pineapple
flavor, which I prefer to let dissolve in my mouth rather than chew. We
chose them over other brands, mainly because they're made with natural,
rather than synthetic forms of vitamins.
You're bound to get 50 different responses to your question - the most
important thing is that you get those nutrients in your body :) Best
wishes.

I use chewable vitamins even at 8 months - either CVS brand Spectravite
chewable vitamins (cherry flavor) or Centrum chewable vitamins (orange
flavor)...JR

I take One-A-Day Essentials. They are small and very easy to take.

First of all, if you've had RNY you shouldn't even be trying to swallow a
pill that is larger than an M&M! Cut them in half! There are smaller
pills, like One-A-Day, but they don't have all the same vits and mins that
a good horse-pill vitamin has. Check with YOUR surgeon to find out what
they recommend. Good luck!

I have been taking two chewable Flintstones vitamins per day - one in the
AM and one at night. These are very easy to tolerate, and provide what I
need. Best of luck.

I still take two Flintstones chewables and I am 13 months post-op. I like
the taste of them and enjoy the break from having to swallow pills.

With calcium atleast, it's hard to find a pretty small pill. So for them I
just cut them in half, it makes it much easier. Sometimes I take a bite of
food then swallow the pill, that goes down better as well. I think my
throat has shrunk since this surgery, cuz i never had a problem taking big
pills before! lol Goodluck to you!

I had difficulty with the large calcium citrate pills. I tried cutting
them. BIG mistake for me. The rough edges of the cut pills got caught in
my throat consistantly, and I couldn't do it. I now just ake them whole,
swallowing with a large mouthful of water. I still take the Flintstones
chewables. Oh, and the liquid calcium is also an option. Good luck!
