Question:
What do you do?

I stay sick on my stomach all the time. Even the thought or smell of food makes me sick.My food doesn't taste good anymore either. So most of the time I don't eat.I do well with my water though. The doctor did give me some medicine for the nausea. It doesn't seem to help much. I was wondering if there is a medical reason why I feel this way? I am 2 months out now and have only lost 40 pounds. Please help!    — jenn5173 (posted on March 4, 2003)

Hi, I'm sorry I don't have an answer for you but I just wanted to offer my support and sympathy for how you must be feeling. I hope it will turn around for you. I guess keeping in close contact with your doctor is about all you can do for now and so heavy duty praying won't hurt either! Good luck and God Bless!

hi there :) im sorry for what your going through with being sick to your stomach all the time. please dont be hard on you about 40 lbs in 2 months, actually , thats very good! :) i had a funky taste in my mouth which made everything taste awful to me for the first 6 to 8 weeks so hopefully it will be getting better for you real soon. you need to get nutrition in somehow so you dont go into the starvation mode and hold on to the lbs. hopefully youll find something that will stay down and stick with that for a while until your able to eat more things. i wish you the best of luck , hang in there, this too shall pass :)

Are you drinking milk? If so, it could be lactose intolerance. I had it and got relief within 24 hours after stopping the milk.

I finally got sick of feeling sick so the Dr. prescribed Zofran ODT 8 mg. (ODT=Orally Disolving Tablets) and it is SOOOO much better now. I do not want to be on this forever, but when even smells are making you nauseaous--what is one to do??? Be wary of the liquid anti-nausea meds--my friend is a pharmacist and he told me that the one's they (Walgreen's) carry all have a rather high alcohol content. Here's hoping you find relief soon. ~ene

Have you tried peppermint tea? This was the only thing that settled my stomach early on. Are you just nauseous, or actually vomiting whenever you eat? If you vomit constantly on food, it could be a stricture. If both food and water come back up, it could be a problem farther down (I had both of these things happen). The food tasting wierd is normal in the beginning due to ketosis. BTW, I had nausea in general on top of complications but it passed sometime in the third month. Hang in there!
